Hello Lonely60777.

If you need ecommerce make sure you get hosting with the real cpanel. Try HostGator - Lots of storage for a minimal price tag. You get fantastico deluxe with that too. You won't need anything else with cpanel/fantastico.

Hello Lonely,
I have run my own hosting, design, development, and maintenance company for over 10 years. We've launched and supported over 300 websites, most are small businesses with minimal budgets.
You can contact me at arbisinc at AOL dotcom and I can provide more details. The hosting costs range from $10/month (hosting only) to a standard $50 per month that includes eCommerce, email, and up to 5 hours of site updates (if needed). Other packages are available depending on your needs.

I look forward to your email.
Rick, ARBIS Internet Solutions.

What kind of E-commerce?

I have about ten sites. I use Hostgator.com I am a reseller and build small sites for local businesses.

Never had any problems with Hostgator. I have been with them for about 8 years.

JB,
I have my own servers (6) in 3 data centers in different locations around the US. I handle my own load balancing by running a max of 50 sites per server. So far, this works well to allow expansion of the sites.

As for eCommerce, I have some sites using Authorize.Net (I have a partnership established with them), or PayPal to handle the payment process. In cases using PayPal, the client(s) wanted a low-cost payment process.

I am currently working on 2 large sites that will offer subscriptions on a monthly, semi-annual, and annual payment method.

Talk soon,
Rick

You sound like you know what you are doing in that area. I am just a small town website designer with a small reseller account on hostgator. (I don't even have a handle on php yet.)

I am just learning html and css for building websites. Also learning Internet marketing and have a few blogs. That about it.

I have skype but I uninstalled Yahoo messenger. It was acting as a server and I hate that in a messenger.

I wouldn't go near AOL -- LOL: Send me a message and I'll send you my email.

Remember, the web has standards, so should you!

Please please please develop to the most current version of the standards. If you can't write xHTML + CSS by hand, then you shouldn't be making websites (with software or not).

Also, if your not aware of the principles of secure programing, do not do web development.

I'm sick and tired of picking up the pieces after dodgy developers / designers. Its turning into my full time job!

 Rant over.

Ta,

P.S. Cheap hosts are normally cheap for a reason.

I have six books on css, three of them from site point. I'm obsessed with css, I don't know why, but I love it.

I don't always use xHtml, but it is easy enough to convert a page to that. I don't see the crucial need for it at this point for the kind of pages I build. I do simple fast loading pages that are not dynamic.

I hate designer pages and flash. (eeww.) I hate pop ups, and pop unders and squeeze pages. I use Dream Weaver. I write the mark-up myself with a little help from Dream Weaver. I like to keep my mark-up clean. I am still learning though. So much to learn, so little time...

Some, many, hosts are way over priced IMO. Hostgator is promoted even by Site Point. They are awesome. Space is getting cheaper, hosting is getting cheaper. I have never had any problems with Hostgator and they have always had good to great support.

I have been with Dreamhost for about 5 years. I love them! They are inexpensive, hardly ever any downtime, lots of quick install open source and great customer service.

I have used Powweb for 10 years or so, no complaints.
I think they start as low as $4.99 a month.
Lots of stuff there :-)

Host Gator
Blue Host

They are all good. Just stay away from GDaddy.

I'm a webmaster and run my own e-commerce site.
