Okay i got myself onto a set sleeping schedule. I run 2 - 3 miles Monday, Wednesday and Friday and walk 2 miles Saturday, tuesday and Thursday. I do crunches, streaches and some weights for 30 minutes before my run at 6am. Ive been doing this for 2 months now. I drink ALOT of water, no soda. I avoid junk food and have several small meals mainly consisting of fruit and vegies for the snacks but seems as if i have put on more inches then lost. Its getting FUSTRATITING. Before when I did this (accept i was gettiny up at 8am instead of 5am) i was loosing weight hand over fist. . . Any idea why it seems to be backfiring now? Any sujestions to what I can do to loose just 10lbs by May?

and NO i wont have sex to loose weight. . .

Your muscle is building up, your not gaining fat your gaining muscle. Considering muscle weighs more than fat, this could show up on a scale.

It does burn more calories an hour than most activities (also more fun)

One reason it may not be working as well. If you weren't in that great of shape before than starting running makes a drastic improvement. Once you start getting in shape and your body is use to it...It doesn't require as much work so you don't burn as much fat.

You may want to try switching to another activity or increasing the intensity of the running.

If sex is out swimming is another activity that is great for burning calories.

exactly... lay off the weights and do more cardio. Make sure you eat three meals a day so your body has something to burn other than muscle. Sex IS a good fat burner, but a healthy heart pumping run will do the same thing.

Maybe its your lack of sleep, one of the main issues with gaining weight is not sleeping at least 8 hours a night, because thats when your body recharges and if you cut the recharge short your body might go into "energy saving" mode i.e. gaining weight... just a theory so I'm not sure...

muscle adds weight, adjust the areas you are using weight to strengthen. if you don't want that area big don't use the weights just do regular exercises.

as far as inches lost, what area are you trying to lose?

Are you getting enough sleep?

You only "burn fat" while you sleep. Your body does the fat into energy conversion when you are at rest. Just cutting back on calories or exercising more isn't enough.

And the muscle addition you're getting from the exercising may be pushing any body fat around to new areas or shapes.

Keep the healthy lifestyle and your body will work it out eventually. Perhaps not by your desired timetable but think LONG term.

try lifting less weight and doing more reps/sets to maintain the tone without increasing the mass.

Are you under any stress?

Maybe see the doctor, see if there is any medical issues.

Try not to worry about your weight, and just continue your program.

I usualy go to bed between 8 - 9pm. that way i can be up at 5 - 5:30am to i can get my run in before work.

and i have to avoid scales. I go for inches not LBS. had an eating disorder when i was younger so.. scales = BAD. Inches = good.

I don't want to be a size 2, I'll just be happy when i can fit into my belly dancer outfit again.

Nope your sleep patterns typically won't affect weight loss. If you're putting on WEIGHT it's more than likely muscle (it weighs more than fat) but if you're adding inches it could be either swelling or water retention. Try a very mild dieuretic once a week. Other than that, it's simple math. Calories burned more than calories in means you burn fat.

I don't think adding muscle would add inches to your waist or any other area unless you're putting on pounds and pounds of muscles, so I don't know if that's the most plausible reason. A lot of people tend to plateau at some point in their diet/exercise plan. What I would do is switch up your workout and do some different form of cardio since your body can get used to the same old dull routine. Keep your body guessing.

It's not how much you weigh that matters, but how fit you are. Perhaps you're looking for unrealistic results for your body type... being one certain size isn't possible for everyone.

Maybe its not the amount of sleep you get but the amount of recuperative sleep you get, do you wake up alot during the night, are you anxious before going to bed, eating fruit might not be a good idea before bed, maybe a light sandwich and yogurt for dinner to avoid the excess energy from fruit while you sleep, by the way what kind of fruit do you eat?

Change your work out. The body needs the challenge. Have your thyroid checked. I just went through HELL the last 18 months. I was doing 45 minutes of cardio and 45 minutes of weights 5-6 days a week. Yes two a days for 4 weeks with no results. Was eating 5-6 times a days. Small meals directed by a nutritionist.
Come to find out my thyroid quit functioning. They had to do a specific lab test because BC pills mask the true levels. Email me if you need anything.

I rotate the fruit each week. This week its Pears. last week, Plums. My breakfast is around 7 - 7:30am when i get back from my run. Snack is at 10. Lunch is between 11 - 1 depending on when i get to take my lunch break (Where I work lunch breaks aren't set) Afternoon snack is usualy at 3, dinner is at 6 and i try not to eat after 7:30 that way i don't go to bed on a full stomach. if i HAVE to have something later than that it will generaly be some carrots or celery.

Suggestion, read Fit or Fat by Covert Bailey. He has a Masters Degree in Biochemistry from MIT. Clearly explains how and why of metabolism, weight loss and fitness. You can buy it used for about a dollar at a thrift store. I by copies all the time and give them to people who want to loss weight.
