Under those circumstances you would be fired. Being laid off or a reduction in force is done when an organization/business cannot meet it's financial bottom line. ok then, say you're team failed to meet quota constantly and it was used to decide who (which team of employees) got laid off.

In that case it could be called a lay off, but only if the position is not filled (by hiring someone else).

No, I hold myself to my own standards of ethics and that would not fit my ethical self judgement. I always figure things like that are happening because it is time for a change in my life and I try to welcome the change.
