'so what am I so afraid of' lyrics from the bubble gum group known as the Patridge Family, I think.
We all say 'I love pizza, seafood, pets, flowers, music, dancing, friends, family, certain things but do we really love them or do we have certain degrees for our love. AND do we fear telling someone we love them without it meaning intimacey?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

Love is one of the most powerful words in the english language and yet we have let it become diluted by saying I love pizza or I love to ski.. When i tell someone that I love them I am not sure that they understand the depth of my meaning ..Love is not stifling and it encourages growth , it is not judgemental nor does it have conditions .. if I say I love someone that must mean I love them even if they don't love me back .. and in that I want what is best for them even if that is not me ..

you're asking a bunch of single people to define love?

No, don't shoot her.. that was a great reply. Love is more giving and not recieving. It shouldn't matter if we're loved back, right?

Yes, Jill, I am. Maybe we need to look at our inner selves to find love. DOn't we have to love ourselves first before loving someone else?

well how can you call it love if it is only quid pro quo .. and why would any of us allow ourselves to be defined by who loves us ?? It is who we love that matters ... just my thoughts

Exactly, he says he thinks he loves her, but it's so much more than how we routinely use the word. It really is love, but we've trivialized the word's meaning, so now what is he left with to describe the feeling?

In the past I've tried to use the word sparingly. I want it to mean something when I say it to somebody.

Love is an idea that people put to much in... it breaks your heart. I truly love alot of things and people. I love my daughter and my family more than anything. I love my job. I love my friends without fail.

There so many variations of love... It seems you are asking about love other than the romantic sort?

The over-use or dramatizations of words is not limited to love... we use it with hate, like, and we also use "I don't know" or "I'm not sure" like they are going out of style.

Simply put, we use these phrases because they are easy, they are familiar, and they convey a general sense others understand. If we all defined exactly how we felt about things, provided we were even capable or had the vocabulary inventory (Lexicon happy )to accurately describe our feelings.....

.....why, we'd all spend as much time describing our views on things as we do waiting in line!

Love is a many splendored thing... I would and do use it as often as I could when I mean it, because you just never can tell what the future will bring. I would like my loved ones to remember that "I love you" was the last thing I said to them... and that does not at all diminish its meaning in my eyes.

Love couldn't be used as a weapon, if it were only quid pro quo.

Shoes, everything has a negative side to it. Should we always dwell on those negatives?

the things is that the people I love all do love me back... that doesn't stop. When you fall in love, it can stop. That kind of love can go away.
