Has anyone had one or know someone who has? I hear the word perm and cringe at the idea of the oh so hideous early 90s spiral perm disaster. Do body perms work or are they just another bad hair choice?

Hiya!
I think body waves are great if done right
The perms of the 90's were more sprial perms
If your looking for just some body and big soft curls that you can wear natural or style out, then a body wave is the way to go.

I'm a stylist by the way

I was reading body and then perm... huh
Those two words should not be used together. sick
I had this nasty image in my head of a hairy person getting permed all over...ohwell indifferent

I think I need to take a nap or something.

Perms with conditioning treatments used afterwards help keep
the frying down. I think it might be better than using a curling iron all the time on our hair. flowerforyou

I myself have never had a perm. I am cursed with a mop of hair that goes whichever way it chooses and refuses to do what I want it to. I finally just gave up and it does its own thing. Sigh! Someone once told me that I should get a perm to relax my hair.noway huh I was like. Uhm nope, dont think so.lol

if you want a little extra volume to your hair but not a lot of curl..get a body perm...i had one a few years back and it wasn't bad...first perm that didn't kill my hair but i prefer straight hair the most..

I myself havent had a perm in many years.
When i want some curl i just set my hair in hot rollers lasts for 2 days for me.

I like my straight hair, and hot rollers work well and its quick too

i try everything...rolling brush, rollers.... and nothing works for me to get a little "bounce" or more body as people call it laugh laugh so i got my hair layered a week back...and it seems to help..alittle..

I had really GREAT hair before my sons were born, now it is STICK straight, I always have to blow it to get any body into it.

I am thinking of getting a body wave done, just so that I can get rid of the blow drier.

Pers are tighter, body waves...as far as I know...just gives your hair a little lift. When I get out the shower all I want to do is towel dry it...and voila....done.

Long textured layers help alot
Also depends on yout hair texture
If your hair is more fine and limp..a bodifying mousse will give you more body than a gel which is heavier and will weigh your hair down.

I did the exact same thing, sat for a minute trying to figure out why in the world someone would want to perm their body and who could have that much hair...laugh I think I need a nap too!!!happy

It's not the perming solution it's the size of the perming rods. There are body wave rods (larger softer curls) and perming rods (smaller, tighter curl - sometimes ends up being frizzy). My hair has a natural curl to it so if I get a perm (using the smaller rods) I end up looking like a poodle that has been licking light sockets! So I always get a body wave or ask for the LARGEST perming rods they have. Good luck!

thanks :)

I try different things- sleeping in braids or knotting my hair when wet. But I'm always looking for an easier way out when it comes to hair!
