Can anyone please help me rid a computer of the Worm.Win32.NetSky spyware. Do you know of a free program available that can be downloaded to a floppy disc for use in the infected computer?
Thanks |

Spybot is great!

other good (and free) programs is emsi software's a-squared free, ad-aware se personal, superantispyware, and spywareblaster.
you'd also do very well to invest in a good anti-virus solution- some possibilities are avast! anti-virus and comodo anti-virus. both are free and do a pretty good job of detecting (and ejecting) viruses and malware. |

GET SOME BI-CILLEN FROM THE VET AND GIVE IT A SHOT. that stuff works wonders on scours

you know the name of the file? Seems like you do? Well if you do, run a search for the file once u find it attempt to delete it, if this does not work, restart, boot your computer i believe by tapping the F8 key before the windows logo pops up and this will alow you into safe mode. From here try to run a search for the file and delete it. The manual way, and actually this is basically what anti-virus software does

let me start off by saying two things - go to windowsupdate.com and get your O/S patches up to date. The easiest and most common way to get a virus/worm/trojan/etc is to have an out-of-date system exposed to the internet, as in this case where it looks like there hasn't been a variant in about a year and a half.
2nd, get a decent antivirus program - someone suggested AVG (free.grisoft.com) before, install it and make sure you keep it up to date. here's a removal tool from symantec, they usually work pretty well as long as you FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2004-021816-1759-99 and I found the above using a simple google search: http://www.google.com/search?q=Win32.NetSky+removal+tool good luck and remember, this is how you learn. |

Lots of folks here have great suggestions so I'll also toss in a few:
Ad-Aware 2007 (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/) a great free ad/mal/spyware remover. AVG Anti-Spy (http://free.grisoft.com/doc/download-free-anti-spyware/us/frt/0). They make a great free AV program, and their malware remover is also top-notch. and last but not least, HiJack This! (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php) A truly helpful malware remover, is you know what you are doing. I do not recommend this program for newbies as you could break something instead of fixing it. Keep in mind when dealing with malware, one program or procedure is typically not enough. You cannot expect one piece of freeware to wave a magic wand over your box and have it be malware free. That's why it's useful to have a few freeware programs handy and use them, and hopefully you don't have to end up mucking around in the Windows Registry or booting to Safe Mode with a command prompt only to root out the offending files. best of luck! |
