Topic: Attention Whore? | |

I hear that is the label nowadays... I'm not likin' it, but I think it is much deeper than simply seeking attention for attention's sake.
I've got this friend...............yeah, right............ anyway....I DO need a lot of attention! I am high-maintenance when it comes to my emotional needs. I honest-to-God wish I weren't, and I am working on that, but it stems from my own insecurities; baggage from a past relationship. I say all that to say this: you guys are true friends...and your prices are reasonable for all the "therapizing" you do for me. |

There's nothing wrong with knowing what you want and need in a relationship. The question is "WHY" do you want all that attention? If it's to shore up your self-image or sense of worth then yeah, it's a problem. If it's just to feel invested in the relationship and connected then, well, that's just you. Well, that and "What the hell are we doing up so early?" is another good question. |

I think you have to expect a certain amount of "Hey, look at me!" behavior on a dating site, where people are trying (and largely failing, as I see it, because of pathetically poor writing/communications skills) to stand out from the crowd, to be perceved as something special and different.
To me, "attention whore" goes beyond that. I see the "attention whore" as someone who posts incessantly, with no content whatsoever, 47 "hi" posts in a day, "I'm bored" (lazy AND needy; now there's an attractive combination), the "narrate-your-day" posts ("I saw a plane, and then I found a nickel in the hallway, and then I called my uncle's neighbor's sister-in-law to ask if she saw American Idol last night but her TV is broken...."), etc. There aren't that many of them, but they sure are easy to spot....absence of content is the best indicator for me. I like the term "Attention Whore" so much that I even wrote a poem using that as the title.... |

You are entitled Whisper. Besides, you are working on it. And who says you can't be high-maintenance? Be yourself! |

I say just because you like attention doesn't make you a whore...GOOD GOD, who doesn't like attention?
Like there are actually people out there that say, hey just let me rot in this corner here, pay no mind to me, don't talk to me, ignore me because I don't want any attention...LOL. You go girl, you are smart, witty, wild and wonderful and you DESERVE all the attention you can get! PS: You certainly don't look like what I would call a whore, you look like a great lady..LADY being the optimum word here =) Hugs to you! |
