Lol, are we offering sympathy to people for breaking the law now?

I'm glad that you see this as a learning experience at least and hopefully you'll learn your lesson without having to lose your license.

Be prepared to spend a ****load of cash before you're done.

I got a friend who was recently popped for a DUI, and he's already into it almost 10K, with the lawyer's fees and fines and whatnot. They WERE gonna throw his ass in jail (they can throw your as in for up to a year here in L.A.), but his ambulance-chaser managed to get that down to 500-hours community service... which he doesn't feel that he "should have to do".

Even worse are the dumb-ass DUI laws- if you're blowin' a .08 BAC (which isn't even ONE beer, depending on your size and weight), you run the risk of gettin' popped. This would be fine, if they didn't utterly FAIL to stop the repeat offenders who've got DUI's up the wazoo as it is.

I say this because I had another friend of mine was killed when a drunk hit his car at almost ninety miles-per-hour... the butthead had been busted on TEN previous DUIs over the last couple of years, and the courts somehow didn't feel the need to revoke his license.

My best friend was killed by a drunk driver....."her self and her boyfriend".
Another very good friend was killed two months later. He also killed another besides himself.

Just tonight I was coming home and this drunk ashole was in front of me and swerving and hitting the curb with his pickup, then he went across the lanes and then for no reason he jumped a curb and into someones driveway by way of across their yard.
He then started looking around like someone caused him to do that. I kept going, hoping to get off that street before he caught up to me again. I didn't want him close to me.

It was dark and I could not see his tag. Otherwise I would have called in on him.

I won't be one to cast stones, because, sad to admit it could have happened to me. Seriously, I think there should be more pressure on bars, liquor stores, etc. to share part of the blame. It is too easy to think you are just fine, but if you had hard evidence...like maybe a breathalyser when you leave the bar...maybe all vehicles should be equipped some way where they won't start until you pass a test...I don't know...It is just too damned easy to get behind the wheel and seriously, have you ever asked someone in a bar to find you a ride home. They will laugh you out of most places. It is a serious problem. Penalties help, but it still happens, every day, every town. I go to a bar...I have a couple of beers....something to eat...I am fine, right? Maybe...maybe not...too many variables.

Sorry about the DUI, but yeah...what if someone had been hurt or killed? It is a problem we need to think about when we are sober, because I guarantee you, give me a couple of beers and it will seem like someone else's problem.drinker
