Topic: Love & thanks ~ to our beloved Soldiers... | |
---|---|
GENERAL GEORGE S. PATTON, JR. QUOTATIONS "A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week." “A good solution applied with vigor now is better than a perfect solution applied ten minutes later.” "America loves a winner, and will not tolerate a loser, this is why America has never, and will never, lose a war.” “A pint of sweat will save a gallon of blood.” “By perseverance, study, and eternal desire, any man can become great.” “Do everything you ask of those you command.” “Do more than is required of you.” “Fixed fortifications are monuments to man's stupidity.” “Good tactics can save even the worst strategy. Bad tactics will destroy even the best strategy.” “I always believe in being prepared, even when I'm dressed in white tie and tails.” “I am a soldier, I fight where I am told, and I win where I fight.” “If everybody is thinking alike, then somebody isn't thinking.” “If I do my full duty, the rest will take care of itself.” “In case of doubt, attack.” “It’s the unconquerable soul of man, not the nature of the weapon he uses, that insures victory.” “Lead me, follow me, or get out of my way. ” “Live for something ~ rather than die for nothing.” "May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.” “Moral courage is the most valuable and usually the most absent characteristic in men.” “Never let the enemy pick the battle site.” “No good decision was ever made in a swivel chair.” “Say what you mean and mean what you say.” “Success is how you bounce on the bottom.” “The leader must be an actor." “The soldier is the army.” “There is only one type of discipline, perfect discipline.” “War is simple, direct, and ruthless.” “Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men.” “You’re never beaten until you admit it.” “You shouldn't underestimate an enemy, but it is just as fatal to overestimate him.” "Attack rapidly, ruthlessly, viciously, without rest, however tired and hungry you may be, the enemy will be more tire, more hungry. Keep punching." "In landing operations, retreat is impossible, to surrender is as ignoble as it is foolish… above all else remember that we as attackers have the initiative, we know exactly what we are going to do, while the enemy is ignorant of our intentions and can only parry our blows. We must retain this tremendous advantage by always attacking rapidly, ruthlessly, viciously, and without rest." "An Army is a team; lives, sleeps, eats, fights as a team. This individual heroic stuff is a lot of crap." "War is the supreme test of man in which he rises to heights never approached in any other activity." "No sane man is unafraid in battle, but discipline produces in him a form of vicarious courage." "A man must know his destiny… if he does not recognize it, then he is lost. By this I mean, once, twice, or at the very most, three times, fate will reach out and tap a man on the shoulder… if he has the imagination, he will turn around and fate will point out to him what fork in the road he should take, if he has the guts, he will take it." "In war the only sure defense is offense, and the efficiency of the offense depends on the warlike souls of those conducting it." "Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what to do and they will surprise you with their ingenuity." "Wars might be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of the men who leads that gains the victory." "… many, who should know better, think that wars can be decided by soulless machines, rather than by the blood and anguish of brave men." "Tanks are new and special weapon-newer than, as special, and certainly as valuable as the airplane." "An incessant change of means to attain unalterable ends is always going on; we must take care not to let these sundry means undue eminence in the perspective of our minds; for, since the beginning, there has been an unending cycle of them, and for each its advocates have claimed adoption as the sole solution of successful war." "Untutored courage is useless in the face of educated bullets." "The obvious thing for the cavalryman to do is to accept the fighting machine as a partner, and prepare to meet more fully the demands of future warfare." "Many soldiers are led to faulty ideas of war by knowing too much about too little." |

what are their names ?.......
by david crosby & company I wonder who they are The men who really run this land And I wonder why they run it With such a thoughtless hand. Tell me what are their names, And on what street do they live? I'd like to ride right over This afternoon and give Them a piece of my mind About peace for mankind Peace is not An awful lot To ask. |

where have all the flowers gone?
(PETE SEEGER/JOE HICKERSON) (1956-'60) Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing. Where have all the flowers gone? Long time ago. Where have all the flowers gone? The girls have picked them ev'ry one. Oh, when will you ever learn? Oh, when will you ever learn? Where have all the young girls gone? Long time passing. Where have all the young girls gone? Long time ago. Where have all the young girls gone? They've taken husbands, every one. Oh, when will you ever learn? Oh, when will you ever learn? Where have all the young men gone? Long time passing. Where have all the young men gone? Long time ago. Where have all the young men gone? They're all in uniform. Oh, when will you ever learn? Oh, when will you ever learn? Where have all the soldiers gone? Long time passing. Where have all the soldiers gone? Long time ago. Where have all the soldiers gone? They've gone to graveyards, every one. Oh, when will they ever learn? Oh, when will they ever learn? Where have all the graveyards gone? Long time passing. Where have all the graveyards gone? Long time ago. Where have all the graveyards gone? They're covered with flowers, every one. Oh, when will they ever learn? Oh, when will they ever learn? Where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing. Where have all the flowers gone? Long time ago. Where have all the flowers gone? Young girls picked them, every one. Oh, when will they ever learn? Oh, when will they ever learn? |

The Star Spangled Banner (composed by Francis Scott Key, "In Defense of Fort McHenry" in September 1814. Congress proclaimed it the U.S. National Anthem in 1931 -- history follows "Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave? " On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream: 'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave: And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand, Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause. it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust" And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave! History: In 1814, about a week after the city of Washington had been badly burned, British troops moved up to the primary port at Baltimore Harbor in Maryland. Frances Scott Key visited the British fleet in the Harbor on September 13th to secure the release of Dr. William Beanes who had been captured during the Washington raid. The two were detained on the ship so as not to warn the Americans while the Royal Navy attempted to bombard Fort McHenry. At dawn on the 14th, Key noted that the huge American flag, which now hangs in the Smithsonian's American History Museum, was still waving and had not been removed in defeat. The sight inspired him to write a poem entitled Defense of Fort McHenry; later the poem was set to music that had been previously composed for another song by a Mr. Smith. The end result was the inspiring song now considered the national anthem of the United States of America. It was accepted as such by public demand for the next century or so, but became even more accepted as the national anthem during the World Series of Baseball in 1917 when it was sung in honor of the brave armed forces fighting in the Great War. The World Series performance moved everyone in attendance, and after that it was repeated for every game. Finally, on March 3, 1931, the American Congress proclaimed it as the national anthem, 116 years after it was first written. |

just sending some love and prayers for our troops also keeping tenderly close to heart and prayer the sacrifices they make to insure our freedom the injuries that surviving soldiers have suffered like "JustKev" in Florida and Semperfiguy in Missouri and many others whose stories i do not know also praying for the families of the troops for the souls of our departed loved ones, and prayers for our world's leaders that they will be wise and loving and will put their own greed far behind them and will care about the soldiers they put in harm's way for the innocents who are the casualties of war and for the entire rest of the world ~ lay down once and for all the arms of hatred and misunderstanding |
