This dude took pride in his cause everyday
Put on his costume which defined who he was
He said he didn’t care he liked being unique
Accused the rest of the world of being a bunch of sheep
Lived his life going against the grain
Spent all of his time with those who felt the same
Hit his mid-twenties and still nothing’s changed
Except his face who chose to grow with age
Now he’s looking for friends with the same behavior
He hangs out on campus with a bunch of teenagers
He’s punk rock he’s hip-hop he’s everything the system's not
And he likes it that way he likes being on the defense
He likes having something to fight against
He likes calling himself a revolutionist
I’m sorry but you have an identity crisis

Lose the costume
The day’s of dress-up are gone
Time to join in and put a different outfit on
Maybe that’s harsh well let’s find a happy medium
Be responsible and you can wear it in the evening
And on the weekends when it’s appropriate
You can make believe for a minute
Stir up some controversy and have fun
But hang-up your angst when play time is done

Ignore the truth and neglect your responsibility
Because you can’t decipher the real world from your hobbies
This whole starving artist shtick you’ve been running with is wearing thin
Put it to an end and grow old gracefully
Time for you to start cooperating cuz rent ain’t free
And neither is your family’s needs
What you want and should expect are two different things
You think the rest of the world likes their suits and ties working nine to five just to get by?
Maybe, I mean if they’ve figured out what it truly means to make this life count
But that don’t sit well with you’re anti-authority
Me against the world sub-genre category that you’ve placed yourself in
Do you honestly think the average man celebrates the system
But they cooperate

Hmmm, no, it is not a literary great on that level. Plus it reflects a snide, bitter, judgemental attitude...and yes, it's too long.

Very well written, although I'd have to say I disagree with your viewpoint.

But to each their own, and that's the beauty of poetry...you can appreciate the poem even if you don't agree with everything expressed in it.

I liked it. It pierced me. I've known I wanted to be a writer since 7 years old. It is true I was in and out, in insanity, in my twenties, but it's no excuse. This is the second time you tremendously helped. Young man, my new love for God, jump started with your criticism of "small town preacher", and now, I've talking about with my family, hooking up with a full time job, but for the only reason, to start a journal, I have these little wars to start, if someone's hurts my earth, and the good souls here, I'm going attack them with my pen.

GOD BLESS YOU

Ahhhh the masks we wear ... wouldn't it be interesting if people took them off and just lived who they are ... who they really are ... not who they think they are...

I do live on the planet thought ... at least some of the time ... so getting rid of all ego is not likely to happen anytime soon ...

It is such a shame ...

We are expressions of our world ... we are the dreamers ... where would we be without dreamers?

Thank you. I used to be the man in these lines. Not word for word. But proving the world wrong is a futile attempt at feeding your ego. No one necessarily loves the world with all it's systems of power, but without love (God) we can affect nothing that will make a real difference in the end.

Sorry, if I get long winded, but this has been brewing inside me all day. Sometimes like poetry, if feels, and can tell sometimes, when a poem is born inside. It could be days before you get to a typewriter, but like a baby, it's there, and like praying, you free up your soul, and go to that part of you, where God most dwells. Anyway, I'm learning that true critism, when it is done with a genuine heart, and is accepted with the attitude that it was done with sincerity for a nice change. Is the most plentiful avenue, uplifting, honest path, the most reflective way for growth. A evangelist, said last night, you,(himself) included, sometimes, have to see hell, to find heaven. That's a little deeper than what I'm saying. But, anyways, think about it, it is easier, to have someone carve a statue with you, especially parts you might miss. Then in the light of the new dawn, every moment, you're created anew, a light, within stone.
Bro, you have an honest soul.

I would agree with your poem except this great country of ours would not be here today, how it is today, had it not been for those who fought the system, even the system of religion had to be fought to have our country. So it is a great thought for some but there will always be those great minds that will fight the powers that be so we all can grow from their battle.
