Well, just for the record, I actually used the term ‘sins of the flesh’ a little more abstractly than it’s being taken evidently. I wasn’t necessarily referring to sex.
Religious views are often expressed that any worldly physical things are innately unclean, and sinful. Well, that would include the human form too since our very bodies are “flesh”. So any appreciation of a physical human body is a ‘sin of the flesh’, even if it’s just a platonic loving hug or being close to people in general. It’s still a recognition and appreciation of the physical form. The physical touch of a human body, even the sound of a voice in your ear, are all physical sensations thus they are ‘sins of the flesh’. I realize this is a radical fantatical view, and I certainly don’t hold it. I personally don’t see any sin at all associated with even loving consensual fornication. For me, there is no such thing as ‘sins of the flesh’. If there is any sin at all it’s ‘sins of the heart’. An actual betrayal of the spirit such a outright adultery, lying, cheating, purposeful deceit or intent to harm. These are all sins of the spirit. I don’t believe in ‘sins of the flesh’ and thus I was using this phrase as a bit of sarcastic pun. I didn’t mean to imply that I’m looking for sex. I’m just looking to interact with real live people in person (in the flesh) and maybe play some music together. |
