Help!

I need some ones opinion on which kind of laptop I should get.

I'm looking in the price range between $499.99 to $599.99

I'm probably going to be using it for the internet, webcam, music and the like.

Mind you it's my first one ever and I have no idea if I should go for one that will hopefully work still by the time I get to college next year.

Ideas??

Help!

Thank you!

Hard to find anything that's really quality in that price range...I have a Dell and I dunno how the other brands are, but I can't stand this POS. I'd advise trying something besides a Dell.

i would recommended dell they have really good costumer service and you can add different it(kinda like building your own)
i would also recommended that you get a laptop with atleast 1Gb of ram since vista comes on most computers (2Gb is better but if you dont have enough get 1)

I just bought my laptop a couple weeks ago. I was looking in the same price range as you. There is plenty out there, you just have to be patient and not expect immediate results. I searched for over a month for one that was the right price and had everything i wanted.

My laptop was on sale at best buy for $489.99

This is what I got:

Acer Extensa
-AMD Turion 1.9 ghz
-15.4 in lcd
-2gb ddr2
160gb hard drive
-dvd burner
-wlan

it also has a built in webcam and mic. It also came with Vista Home Premium. Watch your sunday ads, and then when you find the one you want, don't wait to go pick it up. they don't give out rainchecks on computers.

Good luck!

I just bought my FOURTH Dell - I got a Vostro and I LOVE it. It's fast, it's cool, I got a webcam built-in and it's lightweight.

I don't think I'll ever have anything in my house but Dell products.

What is the price range for the Vostro?

I got a LOT of stuff on mine coz it's mostly for business, but I paid around $900 for it.
The nice thing about Vostro is there is no "junkware" on it... they built in what *I* wanted on there and nothing more....plus, you can get Windows XP if you'd rather have it than Vista. All you have to do is ask.

There ya go Rei, sounds like that's a good option and might be in your range once the add-ons are stripped. I'd still advise away from the cheapest Dells (I have a B130) since I've had bad experiences, but maybe one of the other models would work well.

New, buying a laptop new is about as crazy as buying a new car JMO. New laptops have vista and alot of added things which make them rather usuless except cost more, id suggest findind a nice laptopl 6 months old on ebay. pay 350-450 and have a nice day =)

1g on vista runs rather slow, i had 2 gb and had some performance issues, ahh just the vista OS though
