I don't see why anyone and everyone who has a certain belief can't post in religion threads. One of hand is the great one redy did.....regarding people's religious doctrine.....It was not only an outlet for fellow believers like redy....but anyone else that wanted to post their doctrine...

Here is my beef......and it's something I am working on for myself.. Whether they believe it or not.....Christians on the whole get bashed alot more then Athiests Wican's, Muslims, Buddist, etc. I am not sure for this, other then the fact that I see each and every Christian standing strong and not conforming to what others may feel they should. I also think that most of the Christians on this site....are fine with whatever anyone wants to believe as long as were given the same respect....which to this point I do not see.

the only reason im regularly on the religion forums is because i find the belief that some people hold that theirs is the only way to "salvation" to be VERY offensive

Every organized religion believes that. So you are offended by 84% of the world. Good luck dude. You have every right to be offended, but you have no right to not be offended.

I believe in everyone's right to believe, or disbelieve the supernatural or the paranormal without resorting to intimidation or coercion. I also believe in the value of critical inquiry when pursuing the truth. If that's the ultimate goal, then claims have to be rationally scrutinized to determine which have merit, and which deserve to be tossed into the dustbin of wishful thinking. That's why I'm here. flowerforyou

I am not saying any particular person should or should't be in the forum. I am just wondering why they want to belittle others and be so arguementative?

well someone has to keep an eye of you religious people so you won't resort back to torturing and murdering heretics like in the olden days

Thats kind of offensive. Saying that just because someone is religious they want to attack people who don't believe what they do. Its talk like that that keeps intolerance alive.

1. There is no philosophy and/or science topic.

Like Dianna suggests, the site has a limited amount of forums. Anyone who is interested in philosophy is naturally going to choose to post in a religion forum in lieu of the existence of a philosophy forum.

There is also the question of what is meant be a ‘believer’? Even many Christians denounce churches and organized religions. There are quite many “Designer Christians” who do not affiliate themselves with the organized religion. Some refuse to even accept that their believe should be classified as a ‘religion’.

Finally, I think that while many people view religion on a very personal level of personal beliefs, others, like myself, are more concerned with the larger picture of how religions affect humanity as a whole. In this sense all religions are “philosophy” or a “way of life”.

Any religion that proclaims to have the correct moral standards for all of society (which many Christians hold that Christianity indeed has), it then opens itself up to “politics” and “philosophy”. To pretend that it should be immune to these things is just to hide behind a skirt proclaiming that it shouldn’t be questioned!

That kind of attitude only serves to fly in the face of freedom of speech and freedom in general. In short, to demand that religion should not be questioned on merit is to demand that we return to the dark ages and just shut up and do what we are told without any say in the matter. Why anyone would want to live under such tyranny is beyond me.

I'd like to see us move forward, not fall back into the dark ages again. ohwell

I agree, questions are good and should be asked. I ask questions about my own religion. I don't necessarily believe everything the church does but the general I do. I also believe there is a difference between asking real questions and asking questions for the purpose of trying to poking holes or attack another persons religion.

My experience with conservative Christians has been that, just as with homosexuals, they have no problem with atheists as long as they stay in the closet and don't speak up.

Remember what George Bush Sr. said about atheists-- that they should NEVER be allowed to hold public office and they cannot be patriots.

I have no problem with atheists as long as they have tolerance. I am not offended they don't believe what I do. I would only be offended if they attack me because of my beliefs. I also don't think your religion should have anything to do with running for office. With separation between church and state and all that.
