Calico cats and their personality... Clearly opinions and experiences differ greatly!

Calico are the 3 colours with white, black/grey, and red. Differing from torties as these basically have no white and/or not white with spots. The colours are then scattered in small spots all over their bodies.

To my mind calicos are real cuddly cats, what comes to mind when you think of a cat: friendly, cuddly, gentle, loving to sleep in your lap etc.
But many say they are fiery, strong-willed, not too cuddly, preferring to be outdoors more than indoors etc. etc. Some even say they will lash out and one spoke of her grandmother being attacked by her calico??

Others say colour of fur has no influence over character but I know that isn't true. Red haired cats & dogs are generally quite fiery and training a red haired dog takes more work.
And even red haired people tend to have an attitude, lol. Let's just call it 'fiery'.
Since colour of hair/fur has to do with genes it's not far-fetched that it can also affect character.

My li'l Rose is a Calico and so far she seems quite gentle and calm. The 1 week older calico from the other litter on the other hand side is a li'l nosy thing, checking everything out, overall appearing to be more fiery. Cute as hell though!

I can't wait to find out what Rosie is going to be like! And how it's going to work out with Nila when she gets here end of June.
My Nila is also quite fiery, definitely has a mind of her own, even though she's also very cuddle and very attached to me.

If you have experience with a calico... please share it!

I've had the experience with the calico and the tortoiseshell and also called tortoiseshell and white cat. You can't base it on the color. I've had very good experiences with all of them.

I had a calico with white and she had kittens which were: grey tabbies, an orange tabby, calico with no white and a calico with white. She was an indoor and outdoor cat and I always had good times with her.

Thank you for your feedback, Cat! Happy to hear all your experiences were positive.

Do you still have cats as it is? Just curious as I recall you saying you like cats but not whether you still have cats.

I don't have cats right now. I grew up with cats and love all kinds of cats, and kittens. My favorite cat that I owned was a calico that was so fun and affectionate but she also liked to be independent. A very good tree climber. Good luck with your new kitten.

I had a couple of red haired dogs for years. Both were easily trainable and mild mannered.
