I grew up in Manchester, England. The world's first industrial city. In the last century it was a major engineering design and manufacturing centre, computer design and development at Manchester University. It's also well known for it's Football teams, Manchester United and Manchester City, and it has the nickname 'Rainy City' by some because of the damp climate in winter, it was also a centre of the cotton and textile trade in earlier times.
I used to live and work down in Manchester, about 20 years ago. I lived in Whitefield, in North Manchester first, then West Didsbury, in South Manchester, after that. Moved back to Scotland though, but I loved my time in Manchester :100::sunglasses:

So Shaka Zulu tv series from the 90s was set there as well since he was born in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Was it shot there as well?
I remember watching that at the time, basically everyone did, but nevertheless cannot recall much of it anymore :(

I had to look it up, but yes it was shot in Zululand, which is in my home province. After the TV Series was a hit internationally the actor in the lead role of Shaka Zulu (Henry Cele) became a household name, but decided to manage a football club instead and didn't do much acting after that.

Some weird trivia for this Tuesday evening. :nerd:

Duttoneer has covered all the boxes already...

That computer in the university maths building in the city center was really something back in the day...

And not to forget Jodrell Bank either, it's more greater Manchester than Manchester, a huge dish used for space research nowadays and some espionage during the war...

I grew up in Trafford Park, we used to live on second street, it's all gone now, just huge industrial warehouses there now, then my parents moved to Old Trafford...

I think the layout of Trafford Park was down to an American guy, it was was laid out with numbered streets and numbered avenues at 90 degrees to the streets, American style, rather than the British naming convention...

Maybe it was Marshall Stevens, I'm not sure, there used to be an obelisk with a copper plaque on it, but I think it's gone now...

York
We have York Minster, a 13th Century Cathedral. Its stained glass windows hold around 2 million individual pieces of glass.
A masterpiece of medieval architecture.

The Roman walls which surround the city are a beautiful walk, you can stroll for hours along the top of them.

It’s said to be one of the most haunted cities in the Country.

We have York race course where many famous races horses have run. Great for a day out.

My favourite place is the shambles, a narrow street said to be the inspiration behind Diagon Alley of Harry Potter fame.
Cobbled street and overhanging buildings, it has to be seen to be believed.

There used to be 365 pubs in York, one for every day of the year. There’s coffee shops and charming restaurants everywhere.

Hi Mike,

Thank you you're quite right, the obelisk has been relocated to where the blue dot on the map is...

I was pretty sure it used to be sandwiched between Village Way and Trafford Park Road back in the day with a picnic table and huge oak tree. Anyway it's nice to see they kept the obelisk rather than ditching it since it has historical significance...

I live in a town called Taiping, in the state of Perak, in Malaysia. We're famous for having many firsts in the country - first prison, first museum, first zoo, first airport, first courthouse. We're also known as "Raintown" because we have the highest annual rainfall.

Out town consists of mostly British colonial-style shophouses and buildings that were built in the late 1800s, preserved and well-kept until today.

Jaan, my reference was to the old paper road maps in America, there would just be a small dot to indicate the location of a small town. Population here is about 60.

My town/city is now "famous" for Biden's US BORDER CRISIS! Any Democrats out there thinking this is a non issue is welcome to come to Yuma, AZ and I'll take you to the exact spot they are flooding in at. Illegals from 150 countries have come through this border right here, 20 minutes from my home! Chinese, Iranians, you name it, they have all come through here.

Our local hospital (only 1 in the city) is owed over $25,000,000.00 (Million) in free care given to these illegals while the tax paying citizens of Yuma are aggressively billed for any care they receive. I'm paying for it, YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT THROUGH YOUR TAXES, we ALL are paying for it. Well, everyone but those nicely dressed ones crossing the border illegally who somehow managed to spend thousands to get here, supposedly running from "poverty" and other excuses they are told to say.

It's unfathomable how any US citizen can vote for their own county to be overrun like this! You don't even leave your front door unlocked but you'll let terrorists, gang members, sex offenders, rapists, drug runners, and who knows what else come into our country unchecked?

Oh yeah, you don't like Trump so anything goes. How idiotic! Those folks are coming to YOUR city soon and your bleeding hearts will soon see the reality of it when crime hits YOUR city, your parks, your hospital, and more. Easy to sit back and play compassionate American when it doesn't effect you. But it will. Rant over.

Wow 60 pop is really tiny...
Sounds like the idyllic place for a holiday away from hubub and madding crowd...
