The Emptiness Between Dark and Light

Darkness
whispered
"I love you

so many times
that you wanted to believe
it was true

Soft
and gentle
like a devoted lover
yet
as silent as loneliness
because his devotion
is to her
his love
is for her
and his lies
are yours for forever
leaving you
drowning
in a thirst for more
and try as you may
you cannot escape
through the open door
his words
sees your beauty
yet the mirror
tells you that you are only worth
the love within his whispers
"One day baby
I just can't leave her now
but we'll be together soon"

It feels as if
you exist
as a prisoner of passionless desire
where your weakest moment
is your only moment
of clarity
strangled
by a love
that won't let you breathe
inhaling
the nothingness
of reality
exhaling
until your lungs
are as empty
as your bed
and you wonder
silently
will he leave her
as you fall asleep
hoping
to dream that he is holding you
until
the morning light
