and bookworm...what a good topic...you've gotten us thinking and lol remembering the good times (and if any of you comment on the fact I'm 23...like mentioned on another topic...I have an old soul, plus I'm the youngest of 8, so my parents still have values they've installed into us children)

So... what kinds of things do you "never see anymore"?

For instance, you never see kids getting a "birthday spanking" anymore (thank God).

Men don't wear those cool-looking fedoras any more....

Speak for yourself I have a fedora and I love to wear it with my pinstrip suit.

Tobias - you the Man! I love hats, hats, hats hats, people have no idea the great expression and character of a hat wearer. It accentuates personality - can you tell, ha ha!!! People need to wear more hats.

oh yes, penny candy stores, that is a good one. I have wonderful memories of an old candy store I used to ride my bicycle to that had old wooden floors that creaked and all the candy was displayed in large jars, row after row below the cash register. So cool, we would stare for what seemed like hours before making a choice. Then ride home eating bubble gum and chewing caramels. So totally awesome!@!!!drinker

I know what you mean if you want to see me in my hat check out the pics on my profile, though I don't have any of the whole suit up yet. And I get what your saying aobut the hats you look really good in that one.

And actually there is a penny candy store by where i live it is really old and really cool. My mom took me there when i was a kid and it is still cool.

You never see families going out into the woods and actually camping in tents and roughing it anymore. Now everyone takes an rv, hooks up to a concrete slab with water and electric available and amillion moer slabs around you. A convenience store right on site for you to get what yuo need or want, with an arcade room. The most rustic they get is a communal toilet and shower.

Now me, I would rather go into the woods, pitch a tent (this means set a tent up in the proper position lol, not throw it away). Find a creek or river bed to catch fish for dinner, and bathe in. Go hiking and watch the stars come out at night. have bonfires (well protected of course, and even with this setting I agree with having a fire extinguisher available).

One campground I went to as a kid was called yogi bear national campground or soethinglike that. They had some campers but was primarily tents. They did have an arcade and general store, but they were also in the middle of the woods by a loke, and they ahd an outdoor "theatre". At least tehy tried to include nature and the great outdoors.

Better yet, go with a few friends and set up a ring of tents in the woods like I described above. You can not imagine how fun AND RELAXING it is.

Well, of course, there isstill an old fashion candy store in Michigan, that is were I grew up!!!! laugh

Be fashion forward and wear hats, and long coats and anything and everything that sets you apart with expression. Be happy!

We do not see people buying a whole chicken and cutting it up, we do not see buying a head of lettuce now that it comes in a bag and above all else, Green Bean Cassarole which is the simplest thing to make is now frozen already made. Come on people, buy the cans of green beans and soup and mix it yourself why don't you!!!yawn

Where is this old fashioned candy store in michigan? I live in Bay City.
I tend not to wear a hat I grant ya, I just dont likehow they feel on my head ohwell
As far as whole chickens go, I have three or four of them in my freezer:wink: I usually fry them up on sunday, then use the carcass and letover to make soup with later in the week (or freeze the carcass to do so later in the year).
Although I do buy the premixed salads (it is easier for at owrk) I also buy whole heads of lettuce (I refuse to pick lettuce out of a salad for my taco,s lol). And finally I make greenbean casserole from scratch everytime,a s I do my pies and normally my cakes too

Yes, I know I am the abnormal one here, lol and I love it!!!bigsmile

I also make all my chili and soups from scratch as well. I wll soak the beans overnight, rinse them in the morning, and then let it cook all day long.
I make my own bread when I have the time to do so (white, pumpkin, zuchini, etc).
I carve pumpkins and boil them down to make pumpkin pies, bars, cookies, etc. And I bake the seeds for afternoon snacks for the kids.
I have also been known to boil down apples and make my own apple sauce as well

The one I know of is in Romeo Mi. It is basicly a general store and they have the candy store and an ice cream shop, antiques shop, a fudge and chocolate shop, and goats that you can feed it is pretty much the most amazing place ever.

Frnakenmuth is set up the same way, although I do not remember them being real cheap, and no goats.
