TJ was a great guy Tom (RIP), always fun. I did a small tour of the south (mostly east from Texas to the coast IIRC) with him about the same era as the video you're about to see which is on ACL. The first guy that talked me into eating 'gator, they called him the "Swap Fox". I don't know if he is best known for this song or writing "A Rainy Night In Georgia" but as I said he was a great guy and a lot of fun, if you were hanging out with him there was always a crowd of women around due to no effort on his part, it just happened........

ROCK GOES TO COLLEGE - RORY GALLAGHER (RIP)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIjxRT_VUMc&t=828s Rory was possibly the greatest guitar player ever, he's hardly known in the USA due mainly to his fear of flying (which ultimately led to his early death). Always true to himself when Keith Richards asked him to join the Stones he passed. Just what an Irish boy did with a boatload of talent, his '63 Stratocaster and a treble booster. One of my regrets was the last time I was in Dublin I missed him by a day |

I loved Tom4Uhere's link to "Thunderstruck" by 2Cellos <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT3SBzmDxGk>. I'd never heard of them. And their version of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nji5zvkuuFg> is even better, I think.
But then, I also love "Seemann" (Rammstein) by Apocalyptica with Nina Hagen <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-YzdvmD2aQ>. Anyway, here are two of my favorite live performances: "Are You Ready" by Turbonegro at Øyafestivalen in 2008 <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueutRleUQSU> and "Future is Now" by Nina Hagen from 3sat in 1979 <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLIeNIAK9g4>. |

Tom4Uhere, I love all that metal! I was only familiar with Hammerfall, though. I recall liking "Hallowed be My Name" <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0I5zlxZ-iUg>. The video track is from "Riddick: Rule the Dark" (2013), with Vin Diesel.
Re Turbonegro, I also love their 2005 performance at Rockpalast <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHpHzp9ke9A>. I can't quote any song titles, however. And I'm reminded of another Norwegian punk/metal band, Kvelertak: first major album <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1Uv4F0hAhA>. Also Puscifer, for example "Momma Sed" <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR3ccmWmLhk&list=RDEMIbA93rZJVk8PCoGNCT2tZQ&index=4>. "Listen up, son of mine, mama got something to tell you". Good advice. |

I personally don't listen to metal muich anymore.
I've gained a fondness for guitar blues. Throw in some mouth harp and sax and I'm lovin it. I listened to metal when I was an angry young man, mad at the world. I listened loud, very loud...too loud for most people. I have a great ear for music. More often than not, I'd rather listen to an instrumental than a song with singing. Gary Moore, Rory Gallagher, Alvin Lee, 10 Years After, Hendrix, Clapton, SRV, Andy Timmons, Deep Purple, Johnny Winter...stuff like that. I'm a mellow, laid back person now. I've eliminated stress in my life. Rap makes me angry, I hate that stuff. Can't really listen to opera unless it has a rock element. I can tolerate classical but prefer not to listen to it if I can choose. Most of the music in movies make me think the director/producer has no idea what fits. I often say, "who listens to that stuff". But...I've listened to many different genres of music. I like some country but follow no country artists. I also listen to trance music, mostly psyGoa or progressive. I even like some flute music and Native American songs. I love Spanish guitar instrumentals. I also like some of the scat vocals of the middle east. Lately, I'm really attracted to slow blues & jazz. I also like swamp music and deep southern blues. Gary Moore - End Of The World http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5ECaMU7csY Johnny Winter - Sound the Bell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xa0UU8JZGmA I prefer Relaxing Slow Blues/Rock Ballads http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SINJuEx3rO4 Whiskey Blues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kz8QbypqIr4 Nearly anything from Don's Tunes http://www.youtube.com/user/bongo128 Playlists http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=71Gt46aX9Z4&list=PL2140A0411C65DD13 |
