Hi,
I know that almost all Members are here on Forum from States, but maybe you are interested in interesting history in a country that is on the border between Europe and Asia. I'm wondering if maybe some of you are interested in history.. I was watching a historical series on Netflix about "Mehmed the Conqueror". Like we know that after 28 sieges unsuccessful of Constantinopolis this man conquered this city by hispersistence and knowledge. Now I'm watching an amazing series about the son of Alp Arslan, who was the second Sultan of the Seljuk Empire. It is beautifully directed, with a wonderful soundtrack, and Trip-A quality filmography.Every detail is so amazing, with beautiful film shots. Maybe you would like to share your opinion about some historical knowledge... from the States or other countries.. |

I love a lot of history and culture, but somehow Turkey has never been on the menu.
I don't know why you say Constantinopolis instead of Constantinople? I like watching things like Outlander, which has an awful lot of history in it from Scottish, French, American, English etc. etc. Vikings. The movie "Atilla the Hun", things like that. The series The Last Kingdom, the Tudors, White Queen and so on and so forth. And while watching such series or movies I look up things online so I know what's historically correct. And a number of years ago I read a book of Temujin, Genghis Khan. That was one of the best books I've ever read, and I've read a lot. "Wolf of the Plains" it's called by Con Iggulden. Epic! And then there's stuff like "North & South". I learnt a lot from that series, even helped me pass my exam on American culture, hahaha. I hadn't studied that part as I'd focused on the UK solely. And of course they asked bleep all about the UK, 100% questions on the US. OPEN questions. I panicked, then remember that series. I passed the exam with an 8!! Yeehaaa! |

Hi SparklingCrystal, It is nice that you share your knowledge. I wrote Constantinopolis instead of Constantinople, because it is Latin name.I saw the series "North & South" for the first time when I was a teenager, in Polish language, this year I was watching this series in English. I'm learning it in this way English. When I was a teenager I was watching too history about Tsars of Russia, and history about Kings of England..but these times of history are sad and dark for me.. My congratulations on passing your pass exam on American culture. I learnt a lot too from this series. In this series about the great Seljuq Empire and in others historical series I really like how producers pay attention to details that are reflected in the history. In this series, from the costumes, the places where and how the local residents lived, the weapons they fought with, everything is carefully selected .. The history of Temujin, Genghis Khan,is interesting to me too. I like the history of ancient Rome. When I was in Italy I had the opportunity to visit a museum from this ancient times, I saw, among others, coins, jewelry, dishes from that time.. I never I will never forget the view of the aqueducts.. In my last night in this ancient city in Italy, I saw amazing a fireworks show over aqueducts, it was so beautiful... I love traveling and sightseeing, and if only I would be if only I would have the opportunity, my dream is to see the world.. |

Nice message from you. I actually joined this site to meet any Turk here to confirm issues on Constantinople. I am watching the' Resurrection' series. I have remained fixated on this epic and learned a lot about Islam and politics ages ago. I also watched "Rise of the Ottoman Empire", though i have not finished the series. I am surprised that the Turks played a pivotal role in the growth of Protestantism during their reign as world power!

Greetings! The Vikings, Game of Thrones, powerful epics. They teach on the past. The Gladiator! Great stuff.

I have read Procopius's "Secret History". Procopius was the official Historian during the reign of Justinian but apart from his official History of Byzantium and it's wars, at great personal risk, he also wrote his "Secret History" where he details the private lives and follies of General Belasarius and his wife and Emperor Justinian and his wife.
It's a book more people should read. |
