I think in this day and age you have to have the conversation about 'tests'. And I think they should make a Kama Sutra revised edition for older people who want less gymnastic sex. bigsmile
There must be somewhere online, positions for older person?
Try a search 'Sex after hip surgery 101'.

STD testing should be mandatory.

Mandatory requires forfeiting choice.
People wouldn't go for that.

However, most people have a doctor.
A good patient/doctor relationship would mean your doctor know when you are sexually active.
A 'good' doctor should recommend testing to patients who are sexually active or planning to be.

Another alternative would be including tests whenever labs are done.
I'm not sure of the requirements needed to do the tests but if you can screen for it on purpose you should be able to create standard screening in all lab workups.

Different STDs have different incubation periods.
You can be tested on one date and found clean yet not have sex and get tested awhile later and it shows up.
Its prudent to be tested repeatedly no matter your current activity.
Plus, some STDs can be contracted by blood-borne pathogenic transmission so sex is not the only way to get some STDs.

Most people see their doctor about every 6 months to a year.
Many doctors ask for labs on blood & urine.
It wouldn't be that difficult to test each time.
Worst case scenario you catch it early so treatment is quicker.
Best case scenario, nothing found = peace of mind.

Do you both get tests?, Do you try protection? do you not do penetration?

Just keep it in your pants and then there is no need for any of the other. You do have to discuss that with your partner though.
