My eldest brother is 65, has many health problems including Coeliac's disease and is stranded on the Canaries, rapidly running out of food and his many medications and he has "flu". I'm not sure that he's going to make it back alive.

Sorry Seamus will you buy what he needs and send to him ?

We'll try our best but a lot of his medications are prescription only from his Doctor. In the meantime the company he flew out with will be contacting all those due to return to the UK and letting them know what their options are for getting back. Until then, he will have to cope with the situation as best he can.

Yes, thank you Grace. He does have enough medication with him to last at least until the end of March when he was due back, so with any luck he will get back before he runs out, if the company can send a flight to collect all those who are still stranded.

How do you think about travel at this moment.
Are you still going or changed the destination?

Well, I have not changed destination. Am still going to visit the Oceania part of the world.

I was reading through the report cases of Covid 19 and obviously saw 539 cases in the country I intended to visit next month. I'm not traveling for now.

My first cancellation has arrived , The company travel republic have said they will give a full refund in the form of a credit note valid for six months ,better than nothing but I would prefer my cash back

I know they must be real busy, that said they took my money in 10 seconds,I have waited 24 hours for a reply re wanting cash and not credit notes,
I have now contacted Amex to reverse the credit card transaction

Thank you Grace, I've passed all the information I have to him, now it's up to him. He has until Saturday to get a flight back to the UK or he'll be stranded until at least May.

Despite him saying that he was stranded, my eldest brother was actually listening and for out on one of the last flights and is back home again.

Tempted to hit the blue water for a few weeks.

I'll do the same thing here if it gets really bad. I'd sail to Ad Dakhla's second Lagoon, Western Sahara most likely. Plenty of fish still, and lots of kelp. Plenty of food inland too. Water from osmosis, and De-Sal... It might tempt me to stay. I will retire there eventually.

For now though, this desert is just fine so far.

That should be fun for blue water sailing; don't get splashed by the waves.

If you have enough bog rolls, and someone pushes food under the door, you're set to ride out the storm safely indefinitely.
No potty humour. (laughing)

There is talk of travel restrictions between states in the US or countries in the EU. It would seem reasonable that there should be restrictions and people should be forced to quarantine for 14 days after entry from a high incidence location. In some parts of the US there is a very low incidence of the virus while in others it is totally out of control. Those of us in areas with few cases would like to continue it that way and it is impossible with uncontrolled migration. We keep practicing good mitigation/prevention techniques and somebody with the virus comes in and restarts the virus spread. Either we have to control the migration or issue stay at home orders for the entire country with legal enforcement!!

He managed to get one of the last flights home, so he's as safe as anyone is. Take care of yourself and be well. I hope you get home as soon as possible.
