Airport Daze

Sitting alone in a terminal full of people
Wishing to be anywhere else
I met your eyes

It was one of those glancing looks that last a lifetime
You smiled at me with such warmth it parched my soul

My returning gaze told a story you knew too well
A longing that caused the little crinkle on the bridge of your nose
You understood more of me in that moment than most ever will

Then he appeared, handing you the soft drink you asked for
The look you gave him was not as soft as the one I was award but,
it is the look he had eared over the years

That look sent me back to different place in a different time

I felt bad for you

Until I saw the entire terminal light up
She tugged on your coat yelling for a drink
Mommy, mommy…daring you to ignore her
She was beautiful and so was your glow

Now I know

Last call for boarding of flight………
I walked to my gate readying myself for the long trip home

I had to take one last look

You were watching me and I was happy to discover that
Looking passed his shoulder you mouthed to me the most awful word in the English language.
Goodbye.
You will never know how great I thought that was

My smile confused the robot at the door of the plane
She forgot to thank me for choosing their airline

Oh well, I’ll find my seat and dream of a different place in a different time…

As the plane was about to taxi out, she approached me
Sir I am going to have to ask you to hand over your drink

Being confused by her request, I made the mistake of asking why and started a chain of events that I still can not believe today
At this point she informed me that she did not have to answer to me and it would be best if I simply gave up my drink or she would have me removed from the plane

My laughing was in no way to belittle her I was still in a daze over my encounter in the airport she however, took as an attack on her authority (when did she get authority anyway)

When we heard the engines shut down I knew it was not going to be my night
The gentlemen sitting next to me asked if she was kidding with this whole thing

The smirk on her face said more to us that any words she could have mustered
I told her she is little more than a waitress in a tube and that she was treating her customers pretty rudely

Being thrown to the floor of plane is not a pleasant experience and the two men made sure I knew this
These were not the kind of handcuffs I was used to either. sure the pain was there but, there was no pleasure to follow
As I was being dragged down the aisle the applause was unnecessary to say the least

The poor guy next to me met the same fate
Guilt by association I supposed

I told you to give me the drink the robot said to me and in the most condescending voice you ever heard she added…
Thank you for choosing *********** airlines

Sporting our matching forehead and nose rug burns
Bob, as I have come to know him and I were being led back to the terminal
Where I prayed you would not see me

Thankfully you had boarded your flight. I was hopping you took the time to throw away the drink

Fifteen policemen and two FAA agents escorted my new partner in crime down a long hallway. I was stuffed into a room that was more suitable for janitorial supplies.

Two hours of interrogation was getting us nowhere
I was no threat nor was Bob. They; just like the waitress refused to answer any of my questions
Fingerprints and photographs were taken and I will spare you of the details to the extent of the search we were subjected to (Bob and I did not laugh about this later at the bar)

We did discus the evening over a few drinks however, it was at the Presidents Club of another airline

I apologized to Bob once more as we parted
Getting aboard separate flights as mandated by our new friends at Airport Police
He shook my hand, turned and left
I can still see smile on his face as he passed the trash can…

Four strangers forever linked… in memory

The robot who is convinced she is the last line of defense to our National Security and who, single handedly ruined what could have been a beautiful moment in time

Bob, poor Bob an innocent bystander guilty of having the nerve to laugh at a situation that was quickly spinning out of control. Never knowing how the words bend over and spread-um could make one feel so small…until now

And the women in the terminal
With one look delivered a hundred dreams and counting

Sad and yet so beautiful this life can be

Wherever you are know that you took a small part of me with you that day
and gave to me something much bigger
Hope re-born

Found in an airport daze

Just found this kc

Definitely a venture away from your norm
Growth is nice to watch and change can be a good thing

Its funny how these little moments can get lost if you don’t
pay attention
