Topic: Getting a kitten with current cats possible? | |
---|---|
I'm in two minds about this one. I'd love to have a kitten -a female- but I already have 2 male cats. These are 10 yrs old.
I know you can introduce a kitten when you got 1 cat, but how about when you got TWO? Anyone have experience with that? I'm not living on a farm, mind you, haha. Plenty of space outdoors of course, but during winter when all tend to stay in most of the time to sleep, they'd have to share 40M2 plus the kitchen. I'm guestimating adding a female will be easier, they're not so territorial and often more homely. Plus, if I wait another couple of years, my cats will be old and I read they then are more difficult when it comes to introducing a kitten. Anyways, anyone have experience with it? |

A female would be easier to introduce to males

I've done that before without any problems. Sometimes the existing cats can act annoyed by the interloper, but they seem to understand that as a kitten, it is harmless. After a time, it seemed as if they had always been friends. YMMV!

Thank you both!

Main thing is, treat all kitties the same. Kitties can get jealous.

I had a different problem. I had a two year old cat but then two older cats (a larger black male and a small tortoiseshell female) who had been abandoned by their "owners" to fend for themselves and had become largely feral, decided to move in with me. It wasn't easy, but two years on all cats have come to an accommodation and at least tolerate each other. If I can manage this, I think introducing a kitten into an established cat clan should be easier. Good luck with it anyway
