From 1968 through 1976, Palestinian groups would hijack 16 airplanes, and also attack other aviation targets such as El Al offices. Hijacking was not new, but most hijackers had simply sought to divert a plane to Cuba or another desired location. This time the hijackers sought to trade the passengers for Palestinian terrorists imprisoned in Israel and proclaimed that a civilian jet was a legitimate target because it was a symbol of the Israeli state. This combination of extra-territoriality and claims that civilian targets are legitimate because they are symbolic would spread, leading to more and more Palestinian hijackings and increasingly becoming the norm among terrorist groups. Global targeting would also spread beyond hijacking. Most dramatically, in 1972 the Black September Organization, a front for Yasser Arafat’s Fatah, killed 11 Israeli athletes and a German policeman at the Munich Olympics, capturing the attention of the world media that had gathered for the games.

The difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter is their choice of targets. A freedom fighter goes after military objectives while terrorists attack civilian targets. Of course, I can understand why that tactic is now being utilized, since every time military force is marshaled against the Jewish state, they get thrashed and end up losing territory along with face. The Arab nations have turned the PLO into nothing more than cannon fodder to try to change public opinion. Then they make themselves out to be the victim even though every instance of these injustices are somehow predicated by attacks on the civilian population of Israel. Maybe one day the regular people over there will wake up and stop being used as tools to continue the attempted genocide that Hitler and Stalin tried unsuccessfully to complete. |

stop shooting rockets from schools and mosques into shopping malls... stop blowing up buses filled with civilians... stop shooting up nightclubs and coffee shops... The United Nations is the body that created the state of Israel, the same august body that now wrings its hands in futility over the problem. A civilized people address the point of the problem (the U.N.) instead of resorting to acts of barbarianism. The additional lands that are now controlled by Israel are conquered lands resulting from aggression initiated by surrounding states. The price one pays for being the loser in a war. In real life there is no reset button and you only get a mulligan in golf. You can only twist the tail of the tiger for so long before it turns around and bites you.
