It is sort of a sport for us country folk. I have only done this about 10 times or so during my high school years. You have to be quiet and quick. Cows do sleep standing up. It is a good harmless thing for teenagers to do. You can not image how much fun it is riding around the country side with a car load of friends looking for that perfect cow to tip. I actually think the social side of this is what makes it more fun. A big cow is not to easy to tip so a few of you hitting it together(kind of like a tackle) to tip it gives you something to talk about the rest of the night and maybe the week. I once was part of a group that turned 4 donkeys loose in the school. FFA group advisor(AKA ag teacher) was a jack ass so we put 4 jack asses in his classroom. I did not get in trouble but the person who took his dads donkeys did. The idea was sparked by our fund raiser a donkey basketball game. Those donkeys are hard to stay on. |

Ive heard of this but never really did it!!

gee, that sounds really cruel though.
does the cow get hurt? would you try it on a bull??? |
|
|
|
I have never seen a cow get hurt by cow tipping. I have never tipped a mature bull but I have tipped young ones. But they are so disoriented that the flight instinct kicks in. The jump up and run away. We went to a dairy farm one night with 2 car loads of teenagers. We got in groups of 2 and knocked 4 of the 5 targets over and the fifth just did not go over and ran off. On the way back to the car though someone stepped in a cow pie slipped and fell on their ass into the pie for another good laugh. Thank God he was not riding in my car. |

I've never done it, but have seen it done. It took 3 big football guys
to push it over. Then the cow got up and chased them. My friend and I felt bad for the cow. So as they were being chased, we were driving the car just out of their reach. |

you know, a cow weighs like...nine refrigerators. and doesn't usually
sleep at night. we used to go cow-tipping, too...it went like this: "hey, let's go tip some cows!" "sure! sounds like fun!" *grabs beer, whiskey, music, and other things needed to fortify one's self to push over sleeping cows, which would normally be physically impossible* "hey, is that a sleeper?" *points at one in the pasture before grabbing another beer* "nope...keep going..." after several hours of this...the group stops and decides to sit on the fence and wait for the cow to fall asleep. *loud crash as friend falls off the fence, landing on their side* "HEY!!! i tipped the cow!" |
