Not all flowers have a fragrance. I wonder why? I've heard that the brighter the color, the less likely they are to smell. Is that true?

Not all flowers have a fragrance. I wonder why? I've heard that the brighter the color, the less likely they are to smell. Is that true? You got me wondering about that, and it is true according to Google :- The brightest flowers are often fragrance-free because they attract birds, which have no sense of smell. Flowers have fragrances to attract pollinators like bees, moths, beetles and other insects. The fragrances come from oils in the flower petals. http://www.google.com/search?source=hp&ei=uSX2XLK6FYq-a7zborgP&q=DO+ALL+FLOWERS+HAVE+A+SCENT&oq=DO+ALL+FLOWERS+HAVE+A+SCENT&gs_l=psy-ab.12..0j0i22i30l6.7680.20923..22009...0.0..0.74.1464.27......0....1..gws-wiz.....0..0i131.UTo3PWSCjwU I enjoy the fragrance of most flowers, including Roses, one of life's pleasures |

who else loves the scent of a fresh rose? Not me. |

I do! I love my roses! Even the ones that aren't real, as in painted or printed onto something haha.
But I have 4 types of scented rose in my garden :) One is a climber, growing on a metal arch, these hollow ones, and it blew over for the umpteenth time during a storm 1,5 weeks ago. It is still on the ground, and partially resting on/in another rose bush. As of yet I cannot put it up straight cos of my head, neck and back problems :/ Crying shame as it was blooming beautifully! |

I prefer the smell of hyacinths

who else loves the scent of a fresh rose? I'm not too fond of the scent of flowers and such. Though I do appreciate the smell of money, gasoline, fresh cut hay, fresh cut grass, fresh mulch, etc. I may be a city boy on the surface, but I'm a country boy at heart. |

I do, I love the scent of most flowers so long as they are real flowers. I don't care for synthetic scents of flowers that are used in perfumes.

I prefer the smell of hyacinths Yes they do smell lovely. But for me only from a distance as they're really quite overwhelming. Some scents are too much for my sensitive system, hihi. Jasmin is another one I like to look at but cannot bear the smell of. It actually makes me feel a wee bit sick. I got the same thing with certain essential oils like ylang-ylang. |

I used to have some rose scented perfume. I don't care for perfumes much, but that one smelt so good. Just like fresh roses, and none of that alcohol based scents that i can't stand in perfumes.

I love the smell of flowers and plants they all have some sort of smell. I've roses and lavender and rosemary and basil and such around my porch mostly because of the scents that float in the air. And all sorts of mints planted here and there.

I love the smell of flowers and plants they all have some sort of smell. I've roses and lavender and rosemary and basil and such around my porch mostly because of the scents that float in the air. And all sorts of mints planted here and there. Sounds nice! I planted bergamot when I'd first moved here. Lovely scent when touched, and beautiful red flowers. Unfortunately not very strong plants, they got mildew and I have none left :( Lavender is lovely! I got one large one in between my roses and another one close to it for lice. Not very pretty to look at, they're quite pale unfortunately, but whenever I walk past them, touching them, you get that wonderful scent. Always funny I like that as I cannot stand lavender essential oil, hihi. |
