Time is linear from our perspective.
One moment leads to the next and the next and so on.

However, if one were able to isolate the time physics, one might find that time is a series of moments of reality.
There are some pretty fundamental issues with traveling into the past (the future hasn't happened yet).
Not only would that being need to know all the details of that specific place and time destination, they would require its exact location in reality.
Since everything is moving (in flux) within this Universe, quite a feat.
The Earth is not in the same place as it was a year ago.
The Sun is not in the same place as it was a year ago.
The galaxy is not in the same place as a year ago.
If you could calculate the exact location of the destination and had the understanding and equipment to make the jump, chances are you would land in space or inside the planet.
So you have density detectors that keep you from jumping into solid objects but that leaves space.
So you build a craft using you latest technology to make the jump.
A craft able to maneuver in space or in the air.

Thing is...
Consider a 1850s hot air balloon encountering a harrier jet?
Consider a 1960s jet encountering a stealth fighter.
A UFO makes impossible maneuvers at incredible speeds, according to our current understanding of technology.
Their technology may be so far advanced it looks unreal but might just be their current cutting edge technology.

As for reasons, who knows?
Perhaps they need an enzyme that humans no longer produce?
Perhaps they are looking for genes to repopulate a once devastated planet.
Maybe the are looking for possible food sources - not the actual food but a means to grow their own?
These questions could be endless.

The thing is, space is really, really big and really, really spread out.
An alien race coming here for whatever reason would need to be good, really good.
Every resource on/in this planet is available in greater quantities elsewhere.
Life is not as rare as we think if there is an alien able to visit us.
That is an indication that life exists at least two places in the Universe and given the vast space, likely, more than likely, life is common.
Plus, studies of meteorites and other off-world sources have indicated that the building blocks of life are abundant.
So, given the right environmental conditions life can crop up anywhere in the Universe.
What...Makes...Earth...So...Special?

if you could control gravity
you could not only control your craft, as well as speed
but all so push that gravity out word from the craft to make a force shield
as well as make one inside so ya don't suffer from zero gravity damage, as well as be able to handle massive G forces , because inside would nag-ate it out

Just a note: There is no such thing as anti-gravity.
There is either gravity or not gravity.
Gravity is related to mass.
The opposite of gravity one would think is repulsion but it doesn't work that way.
Gravity exists anywhere there is mass.
It might be micro-gravity but it is still gravity.
Lack of mass means lack of gravity.
However, with the discovery of gravitational waves we know that gravity exists over distance from the mass...its influences are propagated.
What that means is even though there may not be mass present, the effects of gravity still exist and have an effect on any mass.
To have anti-gravity, you would need anti-mass and since mass is an object, you would need an anti-object.

Gravity manipulation is possible.
We manipulate gravity ourselves.
Throw a ball in the air.
You over-come the effects of gravity for a short while but gravity (the mass of the planet) causes it to fall back down.
If you threw it hard enough to leave the gravitational influence of the planet it would be in orbit and we do that too.

Thing is, if these sightings and encounters are actually happening, they are being perpetrated by beings with higher technology than we possess at this time (or the time of the sighting/encounter). Unexplained from our perspective.

One must try to remember that just because we can't explain something doesn't automatically make it extraterrestrial. Are we privy to all cutting edge technology?

Space is far too vast for me to say that UFOs or other beings don't exist.. after all we only know so much about the space our galaxy occupies..When we look at the oceans alone that are here we don't know all there is to know about them so how could we conceivably think that we know even more about space and what lies beyond our galaxy..

It looked like a dead creature with a face, legs, arms and a head.
I told people I found it in a river.

There may be circumstantial evidence of ancient alien influence.
I can't debate that because there is neither evidence to absolutely prove or disprove anything. Plus, it is possible that aliens might have encountered Earth in the past.
However, the shear number of accountings in the last century or two is unrealistic and as photoshop, video editing gets more commonplace, the accountings increase.
I imagine at some point in the future, when we can create common 3d image videos, we will see 3d videos of UFO encounters.

I have a few old email addresses for some NASA scientists.
I even had one call me at my house about a staging idea I once presented.
None of them give and creedence to UFO sightings and while any of them acknowldege there are phenomenon that can't be explained, they all seem to agree it doesn't necessarily mean aliens.

You mention Carl Sagan but fail to acknowldge Dr Sagan was a key figure in the SETI project.
The "WOW" signal is the on significant observation of the entire SETI project and that turned out to be a false positive.
The SETI project has been abandoned.
The conspiracy theory in me says it was because they figured out aliens are already here but, SETI was a government project and all its results are available for public viewing.
I've actually watch the results filter in because I was a member of SETI At Home.

I've had personal email correspondence with Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Kim Griest. I've been in contact with a multitude of scientist at NASA.
At one time, I had many NASA bookmarks.
