Skot i believed the same a mere week ago. I cant say its a god. I dont know what it is. Something bigger than us and our convictions and what we believe

Alot of people if you ask them why are they believers in Christ they will tell you based on thier stories similar to what you experienced. I have some of my own and given what you think you felt today, i want you to question the belief and find an answer, this is what i did.

OK...You just love quotes...this thread started with something GOOD...and you said "Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is no God"...You don't KNOW that!...so like I said...let them believe!

the mere fact that most christians i know, or people with any religious beliefs, are nicer than most atheists i know, gives me enough reason to stick with what i believe.

Why is it that so many people that say they dont believe in God spend so much time in religious forums???? Never could understand that.

Iv answered this many time Millertime I'll answer again. The Christian religion feels a need to proselytize. Its followers must go out and try to make more converts. In addition to that some Christians feel a need to fight against science. Try to make people believe that science is some kind of religion when science is only a search for truth. With just these two issues you do more harm to our society then any other force I can think of. So I will always be here try and reach out to my brothers and sister and hope that they see the light of reason. If what I type here brings one person out then I have done a huge service to mankind.

Ill be thinking for you

Hi Greg!

How come everytime I see this thread I think of the
scene in the Addams Family movie when Wednesday and
Pugsley are playing the game - "Is there a God?" laugh

Only one way to find out!!

Two ways, God will show his face to those who diligently seek Him.

God's face is Jesus. Jesus is the physical representation of the invisible God. I haven't seen Jesus, but he has made his existance clear to me. That's what the offer is, it's not hard to do and it's worth it, if for no other reason then to know the truth.

The Christian religion needs to what?? It's followers need to what?

I am a christian, and yes the bible say to share that with others....but so far I have seen here in JSH that non-believers want to convert christians to be non-believers more than the other way around. I just don't understand why non-believers care if people want to believe in God.
I believe, I totally believe, but I also believe that everyone has a right to believe in whatever they want to. Let them believe!!! It definetly helps to believe to be able to deal with the SH*t that the world deals out.

Ok...science...has this fact and that fact...does it really matter?...maybe to you. So let it, but let Faith matter to others!

There is no right answer to this...its all about belief...let me believe what I want to and let other believe what they want to... and to the ones that don't believe one way or another...believe in something...it will give you peace... if not, send me a message, I will tell you how it has given me peace!

Well looks like Ive hit a chord with most you
I was just trying to tell a short story that made me contemplate
whether there is one is not
I do not honestly belive in a particular god for I belive that every man is he own god and makes his own descions.
Maybe there is something deep inside that drives us to do good well with wanting any recognition for it
If I go and help at a soup kitchen on thanksgiving I do not tell anyone for I do it for the fact of me knowing that I did a selfless act and maybe that will score me some points in the end knowing that when my eyes finally close for good
Ill know that I tried to do something good for someone else

God Bless that!!! I feel the same way.

A little story about me...I was raised in a Baptist church...saw thru all the hipocrits, can't play cards, can't smoke, can't drink...and at an early age, defied it...but I grew up, and remembered the lessons that I learned, no not the lessons...but the belief in God remains...

I still drink, love to play cards...still smoke...but I eventually learned that it's not what you do or don't do to let the belief in God give you ...something...that helps you get through the sh*t that this life deals out....

I have Family that thinks I am the "black sheep", but I know that God doesn't think that...I can be me and God will except me for who I am... I believe!...thats how I got through...my husband dying, my job ending, my life totaly changing so much that I sometimes wish I would just be able to stay in bed and not deal...but I do...God gave me that!

So, can science give you that? You go for it, but when you have reached your limit as I have...if you don't believe, you don't have many options...so be misirable or deal with it and find the strenght to go on...God will give you that!

I grew up in an overly religious family which turned me off from all religions for many years. I strayed as far from religious as I could possibly go. But there is no outrunning the Holy Spirit and I'm making my way back to His good graces again. Just the fact that you non-believers feel the need to try to "convert" us Jesus freaks shows the power of the Spirit at work in your lives. What if there is a God and the only way to spend eternity in Heaven is thru Jesus just as the Bible says? We will all find out someday when we die and if we werent prepared then its forever to late.
I am also a big fan of science. To me it is a demonstration of God's power

No, it's just that when an agnostic like myself explains why we don't believe, many Christians automatically take what is said and view it as a threat or a rebuke to their beliefs.

Besides, have you ever had an atheist 'missionary' knock on your door, and when you answered, tried to argue with your beliefs when you explained why you believe as you do? Ever get junk mail from an atheist organization? I got two in one week recently from churches in the area. And as far as the dating scene, having the guts to come out as an atheist can doom your chances at meeting someone.

I just don't understand why non-believers care if people want to believe in God.

Maybe because it's organized religion that has at times been responsible for causing, as you so delicately put it, SH*T in the lives of some of the people who don't believe?

And I don't know about you, but I've heard hardline Christians 'declare war' on 'atheism' and 'secularism' in government and American life many times.

Ok...science...has this fact and that fact...does it really matter?...maybe to you. So let it, but let Faith matter to others!

YMMV (your mileage may vary), but science was responsible for saving me from a life of misery caused by a congenital birth defect that, in earlier times, would have resulted in a lot of suffering before succumbing to an early death. Admittedly, I'm biased, but I'd rather see resources go to building hospitals and medical research facilities than in teak pews and stained glass windows for some deity's temples.

Well I don't want to shake your faith, but you might want to ask Spider, arguably one of the Alpha Christians posting here, why he called me a 'jackass'.

How nice was that? And why has he yet to apologize for it? Last time this was brought up, he tried to justify it, showing to me that he's not in the least bit remorseful for his trespass.
