i've heard that there are some small counties where you are forced by law that you must carry a firearm while in the town. so if your a truck driver making a drop off you must have a fire arm with you or a special permit allowing you to travel with out one.

It sounds badnoway

Here is the story:

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - At least one person was shot Wednesday at a busy Omaha mall, and police locked down the shopping center while they searched for a gunman.

It was unclear whether the shooter was still inside the mall or whether other people were wounded at the Westroads Mall. Two people were seen being removed on stretchers, and rescue workers were taking more stretchers inside the building.

Omaha television station KETV reported that an elderly man was shot inside the Von Maur department store.

Keith Fidler, a Von Maur employee, said he heard a burst of five to six shots followed by 15 to 20 more shots. Fidler said he huddled in the corner of the men's clothing department with about a dozen other employees until police yelled to get out of the store.

Fidler said he did not see the shooting but saw a person lying still by an elevator as he was leaving the store.

A woman who answered the phone at an Old Navy store said 20 to 30 customers were huddled with employees in a back storeroom.

"All we know was people were running and screaming down the hallway by Von Maur saying there was a shooting, and then they locked us down," said the woman, who said her name was Heidi.

Police were allowing some people to leave the mall, but no one was permitted to enter.

President Bush was in town Wednesday for a fundraiser in Omaha, but left about an hour before the shooting.

theres a reason that violent crime is lower in states like New Mexico, Texas, and Florida..,, that because criminals arent as stupid as some would like to believe.,., theyre lookin for the easy target.,., in a "shall Carry" state where its not a complete circus act to obtain a permit to legally carry a firearm.,., people think twice before attacking someone,.., the criminals count on the fact that theyre the only ones besides the police (who are at least 10 minutes away).,.,., with the weapons.,.,

its ridiculous to think that in a violent society where things like this happen on a daily basis "it wont happen to me or my loved ones" .,., think about it this way..,., one teacher or security guard with a firearm and proper training.,., could have saved many lives in situations such as the Columbine school shooting...,.,

the idea that the world would be a safer place if all law abiding citizens simply dispose of all of their weapons.,. is naive and irresponsible.

While I don't own a gun in my apartment, I do have a whip made of razors, a night stick thats heavy enough to break a concrete block, and wooden sword that can put a hole in the wall.

Just in case you try to rob my place

This is the same process that drives the death penalty and most of the states with the death penalty are the most violent places to live.....it just don't worknoway

In the instance of the columbine shootings that statement is not true. There were two gunners and they were separate shooting no way could one security guard with a weapon have made any difference at all.

I am not an advocate of removing guns from legal law abiding citizens but much too much store is put into the right mind of the gun carrier and there are too many crazies in the world. We always ask the question when one of these crazies legally has a gun and goes postal "How did that happen?" Keep the controls as tight as we can on guns because of this problem.
