Totally HAPPY! My daughter got her driver's license today! YEEHAA!!
She had her American one and as such has driven fro over 4 years, but an American license cannot be converted into a Dutch one as it doesn't meet our rules and regulations meaning she had to start from scratch, even though an experienced and very good driver. Very frustrating, she failed the test twice, bit today... 3 x lucky!!! And thank goodness as this was the last day she was allowed to drive with her American license. Amazing or what! |

congratulations!
i drove a lot while in the netherlands, even in amsterdam. while i had permission to use the car on my own i was uncomfortable enough about the differences in rules and my inability to read the signs that i only did it once for a rather simple drive to a nearby national park. all other times i had someone with me to coach me, and keep me and (more importantly) everyone else safe. |

Not being able to read signs is a major bummer, yes. I believe one of the biggest differences is that over here traffic from the right often has right of way and this isn't the case in America. I'm used to that, grew up with it of course. For me driving in the UK is a nightmare. Wrong side of the road. I did okay, although it's a miracle I survived the roundabouts there! If I hadn't been driving my own car, I prolly would've gotten into an accident once or twice. Now they spotted my foreign plates and sometimes stopped, lol. I don't think I'd dare drive in the UK anymore now. |

that right of way from the right rule was the thing i was most concerned about, especially when i became familiar with the areas in which i was driving.
i was afraid i would get so comfortable that i would forget where i was and cause a problem...worst of which would have been hurting a young cyclist or pedestrian as they were used to not having to look out for cars as much as we do here in the states. |
