Big enough roasting pan for bird
A rack is good to have too
Take gut bag out of thawed bird...
(I have forgot it, don't really matter)

Wash, rinse, cram a pound of butter up in it.
Melt a stick to brush on bird
Cook at 325 for 4 to 6 hours, basting every 20 minutes, until thick part of breast is 180° at least. Remove cover or tin foil tent and cook until skin browns.

Remove, let cool a little.. makes slicing it easier.

Serve..

Gobble gobble...

Yep.. Erin always got a 20# bird or bigger... 6 of us... sometimes the 4 neighbors... and they was some corn fed girls... except Tom... lol

we raised them a few times when i was growing up. one year the tom we had for the holiday was nearly too big for the oven. we had to take out all the racks and even unplug and pullout the upper broiler element. it to me and dad to wedge him in and get the door closedshocked
