Looking to talk about fishing

Erm ok. What about fishing?

I havent been fishing in quite some time. A relative of mine is paid to take people fishing... Guess hes a fishing guide? Heck if I know... Hes retired and can do such endeavors.. Something about winning trophies and the such..

Fishing... well, the irony of it all... I always said the most repelling thing to me on dating sites was photos of men with a doberman, rottweiler or... a HUGE fish in their hands. And I think the fish scores Nr 1 in this, lol.
Then guess what I end up with? A man who's totally into fishing. Sod's law laugh But, he didn't have a photo of him with a fish on his profile. Which was good, cos I would've clicked "next!" at the speed of light.
It's not about fishing itself so much, it's that these huge fish creep me out. Since being with him I've learnt how big some fish are, even over here. I always thought these creepy huge fish were found outside of Europe.
I've always swam in open waters, but now I know this, I doubt I will even dip so much as a toe into natural waters anymore blushing scared
E.g. a pike... I always thought these were 30-35 cm, which already scores a 10 on my Creep-O'Meter... Knowing how big they really are, mommy!!!
So fishing, great, wonderful. I'd like to join him on a fishing trip, just to see what it's like, how it affects him etc. etc. But only if I can stay at least 10 meters away from anything larger than a goldfish blushing

Lol, I used to feel the same way Crystal, until I moved down here 8 years ago and started dating a fisherman. We'd go out on the reef to fish. I'd have him bait the hook scared laugh

But then I caught my first fish and holy cow it was exciting. It was a nice size Hogfish, I didn't think I'd be able to reel it in but I did.

I love to fish now and will bait my own hook now... so long as it's not live bait laugh I still have a problem with that.

Hihi, I'd prolly be excited too. And I would want to give it a whirl. I think it's important to take an interest in the other's interests and hobbies. Doesn't mean you have to like everything they do -if you do like what happened to you, great!- but I feel you should at least show interest. And I do have that, goes by itself cos I love him and he's so passionate about it. But I still don't see myself handling huge fish, lol.

I agree, and I'm not too keen on handling the big fish either, for the bigger ones I would reel them in and let the guy handle it, lol. The smaller ones I used a towel to wrap around it, I don't like the sliminess or getting cut by the fin noway .

The rest is cool, I'd definitely share the experience again if I met someone who loves to fish.

Oh, getting in the water out there was a little scary. I went snorkeling once, held on to a rope tied to the boat. It was a little exciting until I saw a huge Barracuda about 20 feet away staring at me, lol

It's ok crystal, easy done. You fell for the old don't tell her I fish trick! Common mistake by the Dutch ladies. now, for me. If she has a windmill surrounded by tulips I just run for the hills! laugh

Those bigger ones can be finicky in slower water. Ones we have like it better when then open the damn, stripe do to. But all trout can be finicky as well, if it's not a certain color, size, whatever for them that day they'll just look at it crosseyed..lol
