My Ipod Mini battery died about 3months ago .
I thought that was the end for my sweet little pink Mini (her name is Opal) but I recently read online that I can change the battery myself for half the price it costs to send it back to Apple to have it replaced .
I've read the instructions and I am a little worried about the risks involved .
Taking the Ipod apart scares me as I am not very mechanicly inclined ?
Has anyone here done this ?
What was the outcome ?
Is it worth the risk ?

Well it would be worth the risk since the ipod is dead anyway, but ipod minis are rather hard to take apart..

You have to remove the top and bottom piece, theres 4 small very small screws, then you must move the board out.. The board has a cable that connects the clicker and if you pull the board out with this attached it will break... its the most difficult ipod to remove but, what else are you gonna do with it

Woah I paid $149 for this crazy thing 3 years ago and ended up spending over $200 for accesories . Now i'm not working and can't afford a brand new Nano . So it's like an investment I don't wanna f*ck it up . I was hoping to save some money doing it myself but it is definetly not worth the risk if it's going to be super easy to f*ck up .

I'll send it back to Apple when I get the extra cash I guess . Thanks for the info guys .

sometimes if you call computer stores, there are some out there that fix ipods (well around here anyways), it might be worth looking into.

**UPDATE**

After 9months of totally not working I had totally given up on my Ipod until a couple of days ago it really started bothering me that this thing was laying in a drawer and I haven't had any music to listen to while I shower for so flipping long ... I got out my Ipod hooked it up to my computer and left it alone . In 30 minutes or so the flipping thing came on !!! I don't know why it never worked when I tried this before but whatever it works now .
So if you have an Ipod laying around that seems to be dead ... do not fret . Let it lay around for 9months and then try again . noway

To bad I already gave away all of my accesories . ohwell

cnet has a video online of how to open an ipod nano and change the battery. It's actually easier than Apple makes it sound.
