I think it's a recipe for trouble. All moral reasons aside, sex is a biological mechanism for intense emotional bonding. You can consciously decide to make it a non-emotional pastime, but you'll be fighting against a powerful instinct. Unless you are prepared to give up the benefits cold turkey (and thereby, possibly upset the friend too), then you're entering into a risky situation.
