I'm thinking... why don't Americans use Celcius like the rest of the world so we know what they're talking about? ohwell

Because the numbers are bigger in Fahrenheit laugh

I never learned celsius... Perhaps one day...*laughing*
is it because they use rectal temperature probes laugh laugh

It's not just centigrade we don't use in the U.S.
We don't like metric either.
When the forefathers made this country. They said, we don't want to conform to the norm of the world.

ohwell that's why so many from all over the world seem to dislike/hate Americans. oops

The Americans are the global leaders of the world. We are going to get constant criticism from the other countries over every minutiae. I see people online constantly disrespecting my country, even the ones who claim to be doing it in good fun.

The British forged the USA and they brought their methods of measurement with them. England also uses feet and pounds as a form of measurement. They also use both Fahrenheit and Celsius. A little history lesson. YW

Hey, well a global leader couldn't be a leader of anything but the world whoa crazy lady laugh
But, we use metric as it was imposed on us by Europe!
The shops that failed to change were fined back in the day!
I doubt very much we will go back to feet and inches when we pull up the anchor next year and get away from what is becoming a state controlled by Germany! So, after millions being killed they came in the back door! huh

well, never meant to start an argument but alas... The reason most ppl dislike America/Americans is because they are so arrogant as to think they are the centre of the universe and look down upon other countries.
I don't see the USA as the global leader. Far from it to be honest... I see them as a nation (prolly mostly the government cos it is very power driven) who sticks its nose in everybody else's business, esp when they shouldn't. They only get away with it because they have overwhelming military power. That doesn't make a country a leader.
All its motives are centered around power and control. A true leader wouldn't do that.
And as far as the temperature measurement concerns... if you were the global leader others would've followed.
As far as global issues are concerned all the systems and organisations that we should be done with because they hold us back, make us ill, and put us in straight-jackets, have their stronghold in the USA. And ironically most of those are based on Nazi and/or German stuff.
Like your Fahrenheit.
And not to have a go at Americans, not at all. As a matter of fact I've found most Americans to be very nice and forthcoming when I was there. Just that some seem to think that they're above the rest of the world.

As for leader, I see that role much more in the UK. In a way it has always been like that.
America is a young nation still and the way I see it it is still suffering from growing pains. There is a lot of wisdom there, but it was trampled upon when the country was set up, and what there is now is mostly untapped as of yet.
Now the days of the power of those organisations are as good as over, which is good. When they've gone we can finally have more peace in the world and evolve as a species. Maybe then you could be a global leader. But in order to be that you'd have to lose the illusion that you're better than everyone else. You got your independence yonks ago, why not enjoy it and grow. There's no need to keep fighting a battle that's been over and dealt with for lord knows how long.

Yes, I love windmills bigsmile
Although crystal is generalising people. All the Americans I speak to on here are fine, well, when they get used to a sense of humour bigsmile

Best is hopping back and forth, best of both worlds: eat decent bacon in the UK that is shipped there from the Netherlands yet not available here (insanity, having to go to the UK to get great Dutch bacon?)
You got prawn cocktail crisps, brambley apple pies (OH GOD joygasm!), angel cake and lord knows what else.
Proper Chinese however you wanna get over here. Going out for food in the UK tends to sux for me, as I really don't like curries. One time I asked for fries, the rest had almost finished eating and I still didn't have me fries.
Have you ever had CHinese over here? My friends from Essex were really impressed.
So hopping back & forth is best :D

Omg crystal, we had the most amazing Chinese in Amsterdam, the main road up from the square. .mostly Chinese business people eating out, possibly the best I've had!
Didn't get chance to have indonesian though which is what I wanted.
Not sure why you don't have Dutch bacon, you should try it sometime laugh
Remember when the mad cow thing was going on, I was stopped at the port as I had beef flavoured crisps!
