Topic: The art of conversation | |

With all the technology we have now days, people have taken to a different form of communicating. Is it really better though. No one talks to each other anymore. If you notice when your in public, if you look around everyone is texting. They seem to be ambivalent to the outside world around them. It's my opinion, and take it for what it's worth to you, there's nothing like hearing someones voice. Second to looking in to someones eyes, hearing a voice can tell you a lot about a person. You're able to pick up on whether they might be happy, sad, confused, truthful, hesitant. The list goes on and on. No one wants to REALLY talk.

Actually I am with you on talking face to face, public place at first to start such at a cafe. But alas, no takers yet in my local area. Yes voice intonations, body language tells a big part and reading people. I just said a very big word there, "reading". Everybody needs to learn this before their first meeting of a person. How they make eye contact, the position of their feet, how they tilt their head, do they cross their arms in front of them, etc, etc. I shouldn't have to say this, but you only get one chance to make a impression, do your best, take a shower before, fresh shave for you guys, be clean cut, fresh hair cut, do not over do the aftershave, wear a pressed collared shirt and pants, polish those shoes, etc. Same for ladies.

I agree - I'd much rather talk face to face or at least on the phone. I don't text at all & it's really amazing the # of guys on here who won't talk to me on here if I say I don't text. I guess it's an instant gratification kind of thing, but to each their own - I prefer to see the expression on a person's face & read their body language when I'm talking to them - esp their eyes it can tell you alot about if they really mean what they are saying. |

I agree that unfortunately these are the times we live in but when you make a connection who is worthwhile and values you and your time, they will give you their undivided attention.

there are scenarios when you get to start talking to someone and feel so comfortable with it that you just lose your voice from non stop talking...that would be me lol. i wonder how artsy i could get with a conversation hhmmm

I have not found that technology takes the place of real conversation when people are together in a social situation. I, and the people I know, still get together, have great conversation, face to face. If you are meaning when you are communication with someone you have not yet met, I think it is great to get to know them to a certain extent before actually meeting.
Guess it would depend on what situations you are referring to. |

I don't know. The more I've looked at all the worries others have expressed about this or that being "lost" due to modern innovations and technologies, and then compared now to my memories and experiences growing up, the more I see that the new stuff really just serves to illuminate aspects of a given person that were already there.
I think there have been changes in social behavior, of course. But the changes I see, especially the more negative ones I think I see, are due to things other than the technology. The fact that the basic American ideal of using one's freedom and personal energy to make a better life for themselves, has become an incredibly antagonistic near religious fervor for finding fault in others, has been the most disturbing. I'm not sure even now, if that is a CHANGE, or just that I've taken until now, with the way that modern technology does allow me to see more of everyone's behaviors, for me to realize how truly illogical (and even mentally ill) a larger part of adult humanity is than I previously imagined. |

I will say it is still good and bad on the internet...
the longer you use ... this kind of intervention ... the easier ... it can be to spot a troll or someone that just wants to play games ...or not honest ... so many things are done over the web now ... it would be a catastrophic hit for everyone ... if lost ... a lot depends on it now ... just my thoughts ... |
