Topic: How do the holidays affect your job | |
---|---|
I work for a VERY large electronic and appliance retailer in a distribution warehouse. We've been hustling since the beginning of November, but as I look at the numbers going out to day, I can see the fun REALLY beginning. We'll be full throttle until the superbowl.
Anyone else getting rocked right now? |

The more snow or cold rain we get, the busier we get (No one wants to go out in the snow). So I imagine we'll be getting hit pretty good here soon...

Holidays = alcohol = more people beating each other up. So, yes, my job gets way busier this time of year.

The holidays means even more call-ins so that those that do come in even have more of a load to handle with the same pay which makes the call-ins more profitable to the business since the ones who do come in who do more at the same rate of pay. The only ones who suffer are the ones who show up but the ones who call-in and the business itself comes out ahead.

My company is really in the holiday spirit. They laid off 80% of our work force.Happy Holidays! I've been permanently laid off from one place a month before Christmas, and another place a week after my daughter was born and a month after purchasing a house. Hopefully things will get better for you as they did for me. The warehouse I work in handles large appliances and TV's 42 inches and larger for 90 stores in our reigon. We also act as a cross-dock for those store. We're really kept on our toes this time of year! |

Unfortunately in my biz (911), the holidays make it much more difficult. Harder to hear people having troubles during what's supposed to be a happy time of year. Suicide calls increase. Had to talk a guy out of blowing his head off one Christmas. Best present I ever got I think, saving his life.
