Coffee, but not at a Starbuck's. I think a cultural difference. Over here you go to a restaurant for a coffee. A proper restaurant that is. Not one that serves 6 course meals, just a nice, cozy restaurant. But I don't think you have that sort of thing in the States. Like I said, cultural difference.
If the weather is nice you can sit outdoors, they have these erm... patios, many even have heated patios so you can sit outdoors (many like to be able to smoke which you cannot do indoors but you can on the patio).

I'd never go for alcohol on a first meet and greet. Never in the evening either, always in the afternoon.

There are a few similar to that here. We have places like Panera Bread which I would not classify as cozy, but otherwise it fits the description more or less. I actually had more than one first date at a Panera. It is not a bad choice.

You require someone to spend a decent amount of money in order for it to be a "good" first date?

Neither the pub or the coffee shop I like taking them to the shooting range..
This way if it's not a match no need for messy goodbyes.... just point-and-click...lol.. just kidding of course..
I would never shoot you baby..

well, if it was about shooting, and not being shot at, I'd love that! I went to a shooting range last year in the USA, for time I ever fired a weapon, something I'd wanted ever since I was a teen.
Was a dream come true!! It made me so incredibly happy!
If a guy would take me to a shooting range I'd be thrilled!

I had a look at Panera Bread. That's more like a bakery with tables to eat/drink.
What I mean is an informal restaurant, so a proper restaurant, but not one that requires you to dress up formally. It's just casual. If you wear jeans or shorts, no one's going to bat an eyelid.
Most restaurants have their own patios in the front, streetside, because when the weather is good, ppl want to sit outdoors.

Outdoors patios look something like this:

Indoors can vary of course, depending on the taste of the owner.

The beach club I frequent has got a fireplace with settees around it

All the type of place you'd go on a first meet & greet for a cappuccino.

^^^^^We have similar places on Long Island in waterfront towns or occasionally on suburban "main streets." Most call themselves a café.

Thanks for the feedback! I was wondering about this, as when I was in the USA I've never seen anything like this at all, neither has my girl who's been living there for some 4 yrs now.
I also didn't know what to call it... I Googled it even, lol.
Café... over here a café is a pub. Not like the English pub where you can also go to eat. But drinks only, you know, the places you go on Saturday night.

Thanks for clarifying!

There are many other options to go to here besides a coffee shop or pub (bar I assume).

We have plenty of activities, restaurants ranging from fast food to fine dining and everything in between (many different kinds of foods too)

Generally I would prefer neither.

Only time I want coffee is after a nice brunch. Not in in some carbon copy over priced calorific super caffeinated swill that would give me heartburn for the rest of the day.

I am not a tea teatotaller but first date even someone I know I don't want the filter of alcohol.

But at least if alcohol is served I can usually find a choice spot in the places I agree to go for a "meet and greet" and you don't have to deal with screaming parents and out of control kids or panhandlers. For that I will gladly pay for an over priced Virgin drink to get in and get settled. The company turns out to be good I can stick around for dinner and a dance.

Crystal, those are lovely. I've seen very few of those places here. They would be wonderful places to meet someone for the first time, as well as for future dates. I wish we had places like that here in the Keys!

I usually try to pick a location where both are available. Somewhere food is available too in case things go well and you both want to extend the meet up.

Options are always good.

I am not likely to go in for a marathon first date but it is nice if you have the idea that something might go well it is nice for a person to clear their calendar for a follow up date.

Since Mingleland tends to create commuter relationships it seems wise.
