I am mostly on mingle for the forums, but occasionally have a match or email that inspires me to look at the profile.

I have noticed that there are many profiles where the photo(which I imagine was CHOSEN out of others) is not one that would cause one to be comfortable in real life.

Pictures are almost like that in person first impression, so why do so many choose a first impression where they look unclean or angry or in some other unpleasant state of mind?

No, this doesn't matter in the grand scheme, but not all topics have to be a discussion on physics,,,,,,

I'm just suggesting that a welcoming facial expression in a photo can go a long way.

its JUST a thought

I totally agree with you MsH. I guess it might sometimes be a question of self-image they have of themselves. Some genuinely don't like their own smiles. I see no end of profile pics where the expression displayed might be best described as miserable. I think many of them actually think they look sultry. "No stop taking yourself so seriously, you're not a supermodel, you look miserable lol." Now I understand some are not comfortable having their photos taken, I myself hate taking selfies. That's why my pics are often cropped from photos of myself having fun with friends. This means that I've no need for fake grins they are moments of joy frozen in time. No just another selfie that's taken soley for the purpose of social media. A smile is the best accessory to anyone's life.

I've often wondered about that too. Some men indeed look totally PO.
Doesn't take many brain cells to work out that that isn't going to attract anyone...

I think for many having their picture taken had such bad association that it really is painful.

A lot of kids never really have that experience of having a loved one pushed by love and pride ever take the pictures of their lives.

Many never get school pictures, and the few times their pictures were taken was when they were put in some institution; foster care, a hospital, jail. the military, some Jobs where they are more worried about inventory than people.

A lot of people have dental issues they will never be able to afford to remediate.

why do so many choose a first impression where they look unclean or angry or in some other unpleasant state of mind?

What are the ages of the people with the facial expressions you're referring to?

I remember when it was most popular for tweenty year old girls to have a "duck face" picture.

Maybe the people you are referring to are trying to put forth their "blue steel," or, "I'm a strong, serious, virile, badass man baby! I ain't here for friends!" look just like young girls went with the "I swear I'm not fat, see how far my cheekbones stick out, how sunken my cheeks are, and how pouty and full my lips are," duck face pose.

If it were only the young it would be amusing and easily avoided (filters)
