wouldee,

Jesus didn't want external confirmation of who he was, it had to come from within the hearts of those around him. He wanted everyone to believe who He was on his own merits and by their own revelations from the Holy Spirit. Also, it would look bad for demons to be praising him, which they did of the apostles.

SPIDER,
Yeah, buddy.

By the way, did VOILA get the message, do you think?

No need to answer....I'm just musing.flowerforyou  bigsmile

I suggest the creation of as new forum for the 'word for word' bible lovers.

"... According to the bible..."

... would allow all bible lovers to let lose and quote all the verses they wish, practice their Hebrew, show off their Greek litteracy, and ...

... most important, the threads would be filled eaclusively with bible lovers agreing together on the one and only gospel truth.

Not only will that please the 'bible lovers', but as a bonus, .....

The Holy Spirit has a sense of humor and I'm sure you do too.

Not all double entendres are set for evil interpretation, my brother.

Dear 'wouldee',

Activating the trigger again, after realizing the gun has backfired, as a sort of instinctive knee-jerk reaction on your part, spits a second slug right in your face.

Please stop!!! The image pains me so!!!

OK everyone,

I'll count to three, and invite all those whom have no interest in 'bible' exclusive conversations, from a bible inerrancy perpspective to leave the site. I would also ask that uninterested parties also stay away from future post with the "...according to the bible..." certification as a header.

This is official now,...

1,...

2,...

and 3 !

What in the world is all this. I go to work for a day and look what I've missed.

I think Voil has a most excellent idea.

He's absolutely correct, you know, that the true "fundies" are no fun at all. There is no desire, on their part, for scholarly rheteric and no desire for knowledge.

The fundie nature is to correct, to enlighten, to convert.

The capacity for knowledge and the things there are to learn in this life are virtually limitless. A universe of sweet little tid-bits of knowledge, waiting to be grabbed and unwrapped and consumed. For me it's addictive, so much so, that I can not fathom that anyone would give up reaching, that anthing could squelch the desire to conquer the unknown.

So what is the beta blocker that turns an otherwise intelligent person into a closed minded fundie?

Wouldee,

I thought your introductory lesson a very interesting one. You have give even more inconsistancies than I had discerned.

I would like to explore these verses further, but unfortunately I'll be out of town for the Thanks-giving holiday.

I'll be leaving Wed. afternoon but I'll stop back in because I have a question for you, that I hope you will answer.

What do you think about those verses. Was there a lesson there? Do you think it may have lost some of it's original content along the way? Or was it just a story embelished by fundie from another time as proof of the God-lyness of Jesus?

I hope you all find as much to be thankful for this week as I have.

Fear.

Insecurity.

A feeling of ineptitude.

And probably even a desperation for attention and authority.

What better authority than to delude oneself into believing they are on a mission for God, and that mission actually includes the right to denounce everyone who doesn’t agree with their prejudices and bigotry.

It’s a sad trap that a few unfortunate souls have fallen into.

It’s really hard to find the way out of a rut when a person convinces themselves that they speak for God.

I wish I knew the cure. frown

Abra,
I do believe you are correct. Fundie faith is a fragil thing.
It must take a lot of concentration to maintain it. With that much concentration devoted to one all-encompassing 'pattern', there can't be much left over to spend for other thoughts.

Ah but so much of the literal bible is so scary..... how will I sleep tonight knowing that there are unclean spirits loose in the world?

That's why I don't watch the news!!! So I can sleep at night....

Also Re:

"35. And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Hold thy peace and come out of him". And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

36. And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying,What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out. "

I thought Jesus told the spirit to hush because these spirits entrance the innocent with their words- presumably how this one entered it's previous host- and Jesus didn't want the others to be taken in by this unclean creature.

But how did the devil "throw him in the midst" without hurting him?

Sounds painful to me...

Go back to sleep Oasis, it was just a nightmare in a fairytale book. You know, like the three big bad wolves who huff and puff and blow your house down....

Yes, Captain Obvious, everyone knows you're Trolling for Jesus. :)

Getting that Fish tattoo was a bit much, tho. BTW, I like the Fish emblem I saw the other day on a car-- inside the outline it said "Gefilte".
