Well, I'm waiting. I want to hear what you think of this list--and what's right/wrong with it. I'll post later with my feelings, but there's one thing I'd like to say right now: WHERE'S BILL BIXBY????? In my opinion, there's NO WAY you can do a top 100 TV icons list and NOT include this man. His body of TV work speaks foritself. One of the best remembered and most loved TV stars of all time. |

Ok, here's my thoughts on the "100 Greatest TV Icons".
1. JOHNNY CARSON 2. LUCILLE BALL 3. OPRAH WINFREY--top 20 maybe, but too high here 4. BILL COSBY 5. WALTER CRONKITE 6. CAROL BURNETTE 7. MARY TYLER MOORE 8. JERRY SEINFELD 9. HOMER SIMPSON--what's a cartoon CHARACTER doing here? 10.**** CLARK 11.ROSEANNE BARR--top 100, but WAY too high here 12.**** VAN DYKE 13.JACKIE GLEASON 14.ED SULLIVAN 15.NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME PLAYERS 16.DAVID LETTERMAN 17.BOB NEWHART 18.WILLIAM SHATNER 19.ANDY GRIFFITH--WAY too low. Should be in the top 5 20.CARROL O'CONNOR 21.KERMIT THE FROG--see Homer 22.MILTON BERLE 23.BARBARA WALTERS 24.MICHAEL LANDON 25.HEATHER LOCKLEAR--not top 100, in my opinion. 26.FARRAH FAWCETT 27.REGIS PHILBIN 28.HOWARD COSELL 29.JOHN RITTER 30.ALAN ALDA 31.SARAH JESSICA PARKER--about 50 spots too high 32.HENRY WINKLER 33.ELLEN DeGENERES--not top 100 material 34.BOB BARKER 35.MICHAEL J. FOX 36.DIAHANN CARROLL--breakthrough actress. Should be top 20 37.GEORGE CLOONEY--short time on one show. Not enough to be here. 38.BEA ARTHUR 39.JENNIFER ANISTON 40.SALLY FIELD 41.JON STEWART 42.JAMES GANDOLFINI--memorable character on HBO. Not a memorable actor. WAY too high 43.FLIP WILSON 44.SUSAN LUCCI 45.SARAH MICHELLE GELLAR--once again, way too high. 46.LASSIE 47.SIMON COWELL-doesn't belong anywhere near any top 100 list. 48.JIMMY SMITS 49.CALISTA FLOCKHART--see #47 50.LARRY HAGMAN--top 30 at the worst, top 15 is more like it. 51.BOB HOPE--should be top 10 52.RON HOWARD 53.ED McMAHON 54.FLORENCE HENDERSON 55.FRED ROGERS 56.BETTY WHITE 57.CHARLIE BROWN--once again, see Homer Simpson 58.DON KNOTTS--about 35-40 spots too low. Should be top 20. 59.TED DANSON 60.MERV GRIFFIN 61.PAUL REUBENS--Known more for a character than as an actor. Doesn't belong on here. 62.REDD FOXX 63.ED ASNER 64.PHIL DONAHUE 65.PAMELA ANDERSON--worst actor on here. See Simon. 66.KELSEY GRAMMER 67.TOM SELLECK 68.DON CORNELIUS 69.BARBARA EDEN 70.BOB DENVER 71.ROSIE O'DONNELL 72.CHER--here for fame with Sonny. He should be listed here with her. 73.TONY DANZA 74.JOAN RIVERS 75.PETER FALK 76.CANDICE BERGEN 77.JAMES GARNER 78.ART CARNEY 79.ANGELA LANSBURY 80.ADAM WEST--See Paul Ruebens. 81.**** CAVETT 82.TED KNIGHT--most underrated comic actor on the list. 83.ISABEL SANFORD--Sherman Helmsley should be listed with her. 84.ERIC CARTMAN--Once again, see Homer Simpson. 85.ROD SERLING 86.JERRY MATHERS 87.PHIL HARTMAN 88.GAVIN McLEOD 89.ROBERT GUILLAUME 90.JOHN STAMOS 91.DENNIS FRANZ 92.JUDGE JUDY 93.NEIL PATRICK HARRIS 94.MELISSA GILBERT 95.RICHARD DAWSON 96.SHANNON DOHERTY 97.IN LIVING COLOR CAST 98.MERIDITH BAXTER 99.DELTA BURKE 100.MARCIA CROSS--How? Well, there's my opinions. Pretty much an all right list. On a scale of 1-10, I'll give it a 7. Knox's list of 10 who shouldv'e made the list: 1.BILL BIXBY 2.BUDDY EPSEN 3.ELIZABETH MONTGOMERY 4.JIM BACKUS 5.ANN SOUTHERN 6.DON ADAMS 7.ED O'NEIL 8.JEAN STAPLETON 9.VIVIAN VANCE 10.MR.T |

Rosie O'Donnell should be removed from the list!

Hi Knoxman,
Another icon that should've made the list is none other than: JACK BENNY Funny, funny man |
|
|
|
Oh, I failed to add one of my all time favorites
RED SKELTON |

Oh, man, Thursie , I totally forgot those two!
The tragic part is that, even as a small child, I remember watching Red Skelton and enjoying that show. Hey, here's another one I forgot: PHIL SILVERS! |
|

Oh come on, why SHOULDN'T an actor belong on the list just because of one character? If anything, the popularity of that single character should only ENHANCE the actor's status of a TV icon.
Put West and Rubens higher on that scale! *lol* And where, pray tell, is Optimus Prime? HE belongs to be on the list as much as anyone. |

That list is a freaking joke. That is all I have to say.

Optimus Prime? No way, for the same reason Homer Simpson and Charlie Brown shouldn't be on this list: They're CHARACTERS. This is NOT a "top 100 TV CHARACTERS" list.
Batman was big for a VERY short while. West did nothing of signifigance before or after. Reubens deserves to be on this list less than West does. Mention the name "Paul Reubens" to 100 people, any age, and 95 of them are guaranteed to say, "Who?". Another name that should be on the top 100 list: DAVID JANSSEN. |

Goofball:
This WAS Entertainment Weekly's list. But, why do YOU think it's a joke? And who would your top 10 be? |

Goofball: This WAS Entertainment Weekly's list. But, why do YOU think it's a joke? And who would your top 10 be? I know it was there, and I love to read that mag. But everytime they do a list they always put people in that do not belong or are rated to high. I mean, George Clooney? Are you freaking kidding me? I'll have to work on my top 10, but I do know that Andy Griffith would be in it. |

Charlie Brown is a TV icon tho, every holiday I look forward to the Peanut speicals.
Other than that I totally agree with your thoughts about Don Knots and Andy Griffith being too far down on the list. And evil Oprah is wayyy to high on the list. And why are the Desperate House wives on there!? And Simon!? And how the fark did pam anderson beat Barbra Eden!? Barbra is still hotter than Pam, even if she is 70! This is why I'd rather watch TV Land rather than anything new on TV (besides discovery and animal planet) lol |

As long as cartoon characters are included, where's
FRED FLINTSTONE ??? |
|
|
|
Going along with Goofball...
I vote for Big Bird! |
|
|
|
Bob Barker is wayyyyyyyy to low on that list. That man is the King when it comes to game shows.
