Is there any particular reason why some people come these sites and lie about who are what they really are? If you are looking for genuine friendships, isn't honesty the best policy? Do they not think that at some point the truth will come out?
Hmmmm~~ I was just wondering.

why

cause they can, they get a sick and twisted delight out of hurting other ppl and lying helps them to do that

they dont care who they lie to and who they end up hurtin

don't know...had this convo not long ago...and they lie about the sorriest little things... when i lie i giggle and i get all tangled up in my blonde hair trying to think of another lie to cover up the first one...just tell the truth, it's sooo much easier....it seems to me that the liars are also very dramatic...

To be quiet frank, I am not saying to advertise your personal life history on here. I am fully aware of the unscrupulous characters that plague these sites. I just figure with much limitation, whatever you post should be the truth or at least close enough to it.

hi dmx and welcome to JSH

people lie because they think they can get away with it, but one lie leads to another, honesty is my best theory and i stick to it.

Well is it lying or just showing the better parts of how they believe they are seen today.

Lying like, not saying they have a restraining order against them currently and you find out they hit their ex.

I would like an example

Thanks,

J

Lying= Posting "single and available" when the truth is married with kids.

Not publishing background record and credit history is information to be sought based on level of relationship developed.

Fabricating a profile that creates an illusion of the person you would like to be is a gray area and is open for discussion. Eg. I am a handsome, attractive and funloving guy...Really, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I can't fault you for being confident about you when the world sees something else.

Yeah I don't understand the profiles that say they are beautiful or attractive..... It really has no bearing that you tell others you are beautiful right.... it's up to them.

There are a lot of profiles that need better descriptions. I like it when they put what they have accomplished and where they see themselves going.

Who asks for a credit history? Am I missing something?
I think some people wind up on online dating sites because they can't stay with anyone for any length of time, probably because of the same things they do on the site. My guess is that people lie because they are afraid that nobody will like them.
I know I'm part of the problem, because I wouldn't want to meet an overweight boring chick, but I'm also 19 and a total asshole. Some people are just crazy too (like the Über religious people). I think meeting people online to date is harder than it is IRL.
Also, a lot of people on dating sites just want a "no strings" hump, and others MUST get married to the first person they find that likes them. It's kind of creepy, really. Not to talk bad about dating sites, but they can attract certain types of people.
