Topic: Anyone do any shooting? | |

Rifle, pistol, shotgun, air gun, or something else? Do you compete, hunt, or recreational?
For me I like target shooting. I have a membership to a local pistol range. I do not compete, except with myself. For me to shoot well I have to slow things down and relax. I really enjoy time at the range. I load my own ammo and shoot revolver most of the time. I do shoot semi auto but tire of chasing fired brass to reload. I shoot both right and left handed. |

Hey RM,
I'm Rob. I go to my local gun range. I shoot 7.62 russian, .45, .270 and .22. |

Hey Rob, my range only permits pistol caliber rifle and rim fire under 2k fps. It's an indoor range. There is a public outdoor range about 45 miles away that I could shoot bigger stuff at.

Eh I don't reload myself. But I go a friends back 40 and shoot. We have one heck of a back stop... Mostly .45 semi auto when I use the conversion 22 rim fire semi. 22 revolver. And .38 revolver. We sometimes do targets but mostly shoot bowling pins.
I need to remember to get some 5.56 for the ed ar. |

I used to plink a bunch at the outside place above. But they closed it off and made a weekend only supervised thing out of it. It's a lot nicer now but also way more crowded.
I have never shot bowling pin in competition or other wise. I did compete in Cowboy Action for a while. They have steel targets and most you just "ring" with a hit but there are some knock downs. |

The bowling pins don't knock down right away. Lol but you can get them to smoke depending on how fast you can reload.
I have thought about some metal swinging targets. But for now it's just recreation. I'm not anywhere good enough for competition. Not to mention the time it takes. |

Not for a long time now, but I've been shooting with a range of relatively small weapons. .45 Magnum revolvers, Arisaka rifles, that sort of thing. Lots of fun. Expensive ammunition, though, especially for the Arisaka, since that has to be manufactured to order.

I am really lucky in that I can purchase reloading components at very low cost near by. I avoid shipping cost on heavy bullets and haz mat fees on primers. 9mm and .38 cost about $4 a box of 50. 45lc are about twice that. .357, 40 S&W, and 45acp are some where in between.
Black Powder cartridge is about the most expensive thing I load. Special lubed bullets is a bunch of the cost and large quantities of powder. |

But for now it's just recreation. I'm not anywhere good enough for competition. Not to mention the time it takes. I remember the bowling pin competitions. What I was told was that you need not only the proper shot placement but also the proper ammo. To hot a load would go through the pin and leave it on the table. To light would leave it on the table also. I used to be ok and could compete. I was out shot by my share of women and kids. But I did out shoot my share of folks also. Not no more though. My eyes are not good enough. As I said I do love to relax with a box at the range when I can. |

Hey RM, how much is a box of hot .38 super running these days reloaded? Just depends on what bullet you want to use. I like Hodgdon powder as it is a Kansas company and Missouri Cast Bullets as they are close so they cost less as per lower shipping costs. I use H110 for warm .357 loads. Hodgdon's site lists for a .38 Super +P load only data for WSF powder. I had that same thing with heavy 147 grain bullets for 9mm. If you stay under +P loads then there are a lot of powders to choose from. If you want to figure cost, There is right at 7000 grains of powder in a pound. Primers cost me $27 a thousand. How I get cost down is I order low cost lead bullets. I bought a 8lb. jug of Clays powder. It burns fast and I use under 3 grains of powder for a .38 spl. Case's are free after you buy them the first time. Or when I go to the range I ask others if they are going to keep spent brass and if they say no I ask if I can have them. This is the place near me that I buy from: http://powdervalleyinc.com/ I use Hornady Critical Defense factory ammo in all my concealed carry handguns. |

I played around with black powder and firecracker fuse a time or two. Nothing major like that though. Just some homemade fireworks. |

Springfield XD subcompact (9mm) Springfield XDS (45.) I almost bought an XD on more than one occasion. My youngest son bought an XD 45 5". It dose pretty well. I really like the Sig P250. I am an old double action revolver shooter and like the long double action feel trigger. On the P250 the only thing serial numbered is the pull out trigger assy. It pulls out and swaps into another frame and barrel assy. You could get caliber X-Change kits for just over $200 when they first came out. Really cool in that you can just swap stuff around. Full size barrel on a compact frame or vice versa. Or compact barrel on a sub compact frame. Not to mention the different calibers. |

I carry a desert eagle in my car for that moment, for home safety i have an AK47 which is actually illegal for civilians to posess but i acquired it & it's one fkin tough machine The Desert Eagles are way cool. Thought many a time of buying one but never pulled the pin. The Baby Eagle in .357 has me wanting again. If the AK is full auto it is not illegal for civilians to own. You just need to do the paper work and get the federal tax stamp for it. It does cost some $$$$'s but beats going to the big house if your caught. |

No, I don't. Which is probably a good thing since I might decide to be depressed with my life and shoot myself. BLAM!! Goneski. One bullet right between the eyes.

No, I don't. Which is probably a good thing since I might decide to be depressed with my life and shoot myself. BLAM!! Goneski. One bullet right between the eyes. There are lots of stuff that I'm not into either. I would never tell some one they should start any hobby they are not comfortable with. The way I see it is that different folks like different flavors of ice cream. No big deal. We just like different things. |
