Companies Saying Goodbye To The U.s.

Ford announced today it will be hitting the road, taking its small-car production across the border to Mexico.

So, this had FOXBusiness.com thinking – what other companies have jumped ship, relocating their operations outside of the U.S.? The North American Free Trade Agreement, once thought to be a saving grace for the economy, instead offers access to cheaper labor elsewhere. Combine this with the U.S. corporate tax rate, one of the highest in the world, and you've got plenty of incentive for companies to abandon their U.S. bases.

So which other companies have joined the ranks of Ford and moved production out of the U.S.? Here are 5 big businesses taking their jobs elsewhere.
1. Fiat Chrysler
Fiat Chrysler

Beginning in 2017, Fiat Chrysler will drive into Mexico and Canada completely withdrawing all car manufacturing from the United States.
2. Nabisco
Nabisco

The maker of Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and Nilla Wafers invested $130 million in a production plant in Mexico back in March, 2016. In the process, the company laid off 600 workers at its Chicago plant.
3. Burger King
Burger King

The Whopper has a new home. Burger King moved its headquarters to Canada by merging with the Canadian company Tim Horton's Inc. back in August, 2014.

4. United Technologies Electronic Controls (UTEC)
United Technologies Electronic Controls (UTEC)

UTEC makes products for the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry, and will be closing its plants in Indiana in order to move to Mexico. The company will lay off 700 people by 2018.

5. Carrier
Carrier

The air conditioning manufacturer is getting some fresh air in Mexico, leaving its Indiana base behind. The company will lay off 1,400 workers across Indiana, and will record a total loss of 2,700 jobs overall in the state.

Ford will expand to Mexico,, replacing the production of small cars here with producing larger cars in their place,,,,

Not for nothing, but I think its important in the details so people dont get the impression that companies are 'taking jobs' that are here and moving them elsewhere,,,,

although many up and leave, others merely expand,,,,

What you claim as "expansion" entails closing plants and ending jobs in the US. But it's not a move?

if plants close, it costs jobs

if additional plants are opened it adds jobs

there are many reasons plants close

plants can close and companies can be expanding

IF a plant is closed IN ORDER TO employ people elsewhere it is a move

perhaps minglers have some inside line into Ford that their spokespersons dont though

maybe

we will see

IF I make 10 products and add another 3, I can presumably move 2 of the existing products to be made elsehwere, and not LOSE jobs, because of the additional products replacing them

When an American based company moves it's
operations to another country, it ends American jobs.

Bolsters the economy of the foreign nation,
while hurting America's economy.

this is true, when it MOVES<, not when it EXPANDS

The moves were made for one reason.. the bottom line.. money.

Cheaper labor, no unions, cheaper benefits ( if any) cheaper utilities costs, cheaper raw materials, cheaper vendor costs, tax incentives, land incentives, freight incentives.

math is actually a strong point of mine

since FORD introduces new cars all the time,, them switching where some will be produced while continuing to add others does not cost jobs,,,

if they were stagnate and only ever produced a fixed number, any change in that fixed number to someplace else would cost jobs

and what is your 'board room' experience? or anyone elses with an opinion here?

rofl rofl rofl rofl

ok, thats scary

IM Trumps secret love child and I run his operation in several states that I cant mention at my level,,,,

but not surprising that you dont call out any of the other minglers with no board room experience, and certainly not YOUR experience

who are sharing their opinions here

but math is math, wherever it is

IF I Make 10 cars, and I will be adding 3 more cars

but I move 2 of the existing cars to be produced elsewhere

the math looks like this, just making it simple that 100 employees are working for each car

I would have currently 1000 employees, and I will need 300 more

I move 200 of the jobs but REPLACE Them with 300 more jobs

thats an INCREASE of 100 employees

boardroom, or classroom

saying goodbye would mean like moving from ohio to nevada

saying IM expanding, would be having a home in ohio AND Nevada

you get why the idea that the company is leaving america is a false representation?

smh

I have relatives like this, unfortunately

you can give them 100 bucks but they would ***** that you gave someone else 200

sad really

more is more, because its more than you had,, not because its more than someone else got

The other factories are in Asia and Europe. no secret either?

( The Florida location is to bring jobs BACK to America.. i.e. actually doing something to change things.. not just talk the game)

Who's talking about Trump?..

The fact is you have zero practical business experience at a global platform... zero. You have no idea what goes on at that level. Chances are you have never even been on that floor.

And the offer stands. MS,. come on down to Florida and see for yourself.. hell, I also give you the ole power point on my other locations as well... actually my secretary will.. Lol

Come on down and prove me wrong...I would enjoy the attempt very much.. anytime you like.. Lol

Look at it as a free course in business 101

Lunch is on me :)

I will give you the benefit of the doubt as their are few people who behave stable enough on here for me to ever agree to MEET with them anywhere,,lol

but back to the point

I only ever said I know MATH,, personal issues caused the perception that I said I was an 'international' expert on anything,,

I took business, and math is math , with or without a business course,,

Working=paycheck for labor/service

raising kids in ASSistance<>job.....no matter how many think it is

not unexpected

thats actually working for a 'living'(paycheck)

lets look at another definition of work(from miriam)

activity involving mental or physical effort done in order to achieve a purpose or result.

so , yes, raising children into intelligent, responsible contributing adults is a JOB

thats why nannies are paid well for it, laugh

cooking meals is a job, thats why chefs are paid for it

cleaning is a job, thats why maids are paid for it

,,etc,,etc,,etc,,

mothers have many JOBS and WORK Hard, but just not for monetary rewards,,

and many do all those jobs PLUS contribute to someone elses WEALTH by punching their company clock and towing their company line

like I have MOST of my adult life

I have had a job for most of my life, btw, and 'working' for a living is a subjective and arguable term, considering the living very hard 'working' people make compared to others 'working' by barking orders and sitting on their butt in air conditioning

but I digress,,,
lol

is everyone in this thread a business owner
or a political expert
or does everyone who posts about BLM go to BLM events and oversee BLM events?

since when does the bar for my opinion have to be so much higher than anyone elses?.....

you guys are hilarious

and once again, I am speaking math, BASIC concept, whatever ones experience or 'expertise'
