My answer was "diligence" anyway.

As you diligently tried to reach the point on the scale that you had set yourself as a point of acceptable quality of explanation. When not satisfied you saut outside input

we are constantly evaluating to a scale set by ourselves or others.
Sometimes we set the point of acceptability, some times it is others, and often a combination of both

On the other hand...

It might just be putting milk in one's coffee instead of the little 1/2oz cup with too many words on the side, that's a strain to read anyway.
