If your an older woman, and estrogen is at a loss, what can you do for your hair to help it shine and glow, without the cost...any ideas, home remedies....?

Give it a hot oil treatment once and awhile...

Warm babyoil (or veggie or olive oil) up- but not too hot.
Apply to your hair and leave in for a few...
Then shampoo with a gentle shampoo.
You may need to repeat shampooing so hair is not greasy.
Hot oil treatment puts moisture back in...

Rinse your hair in cold water.

I worked with a woman who was also an actress. A play she was in required her to have her hair washed onstage. There was no hot water. Her hair got so healthy ... strong with a beautiful shine.

She was in her mid-50's at the time. She still swears by it and always rinses in cold water at home.

an aloe vera plant is good to have around , break off a branch an gooo it through your hair an laeve it on for a half hour or so an rinse , aloe vera can be good for minor burns an scrapes to , I have herd eggs are good for sheen , but never tried , sounds messy an potentially smelly...laugh I use Outrageous shampoo an conditioner if they have it in your area its not to expensive and it is really nice stuff ...hmmm, what else ...hair serum can be not to expensive an lasts along time .
a lil dab will do ya , ...
 if I think of any more I'll let ya know ...

i know this is going to sound wierd but baking soda mixed in your shampoo about quarter size does wonders to make your hair shiny and healthy. it strips off all build ups like sprays and shampoos.

One of the best remedies I have found for dry or damaged hair is to mix plain yogurt and and avacado to make a mask for your hair, once you apply it generously cover your hair with a shower cap and let it sit for about a half hour and then wash and dry your hair as usual. Make sure you are using a moisture restoring shampoo, like one for dry hair, otherwise the shampoo will rinse out the moisture.

coat the hair with mayonaise, wrap it in a warm towel, leave the towel on the hair for 10 minutes, and then wash the mayo out..

the warm towel raises the cuticle of the hair strands, and allows the mayo to get in there and CONDITION the daylights out of your hair..

you can use eggs also, however, they're more difficult to remove from the hair...

Soldier, it's for an older woman, she doesn't have enough of it already, this would hurt her feelings, as she is reading this here with me now..

Had a hairdresser tell me that for the ones that there hair is flat and tends to get oily faster to use the conditiner on there hair first then shampoo it will make the hair more fluffy.

Chubby laugh

Good suggestions but the only one I can testify to is the cold water one - yes, it works, smoothes the hair.

You can also buy a hair treatment just called "Shine" - can't remember who makes it but I've seen it in the hair colour aisle.

the cold water slams the cuticle of the hair shaft closed...so it appears to be shinier..

vinigear does the same thing..makes hair shinier...

oh..and someone mentioned earlier about baking soda mixed with shampoo? that strips the hair of all the natural oils, if done too often, it will dry out the hair...hair will start to feel like straw frown
