Orange -- my own policy is that everybody gets a reply -- the only exceptions are scammers and spammers and trolls and stalkers. (That sounds like a lot of exceptions but I have only had maybe 5-6 of those in 10 months here.)

What I have noticed is that local people do not reply to my e-mails. I used to occasionally send a welcoming note to new people from my area when I saw them on the site. Not that I have tried this a million times, but the times I DID try, nobody replied, so I said screw them and just stopped doing it.

People who AREN'T local have been pretty good about responding but I rarely have any reason to write anyone first. Probably 95% of the e-mails I get here are from people who read something I wrote in the forums. That, to me, is the best "icebreaker" here. I write stuff in the forums, and then people write to me, and I don't have to write to anybody first and be ignored! Problem solved! (Or circumvented, anyway.)

I occasionally send out emails any more.now I do welcome new people if I am in there.

I also don't talk to women much. It helps keep the questions to the bare minimummmmmm...laugh laugh laugh laugh
