You get to know her online first, then you go and see her. Then she comes to see you. You don't rush things.
And one has to be willing to move to the other if it really works out. If neither party wants to do that, it won't lead to anything lasting.

You never begin by sending her money to travel to see you, but when you both want to meet each other, agree to meet up somewhere in between where you both live, regular meet ups are required to really get to know each other, and if all goes well one of you must relocate so you can be together. In my opinion it is much better to find someone close to where you live if possible, avoiding expensive travel costs for something that might never happen.
