Members divided about Planet Fitness transgender policy

Members of a Planet Fitness gym in Cape Coral are divided about whether transgendered clients should be allowed to use facilities based on the gender they identify with or not. A concerned viewer reached out to Four in Your Corner after she says no one told her about the policy. She says she'll be cancelling her membership.

Planet Fitness is known for their "No Judgment Zone" policy and encouraging members to go at their own pace while working out without being judged. This policy has a comforting appeal for many members like James Edmund who says

"It doesn't matter how you look or what you're doing. as soon as you get in here you just start doing what you're supposed to do."

Some of the small details that make up the judgment free policy doesn't appeal to everyone.;

A viewer sent FOX 4 an email upset after finding out her gym in Cape Coral allows transgendered clients to use whichever bathroom, locker room, or shower room they feel gendered to.

She says she's even more concerned there is no sign in the bathroom to let anyone know about the policy.

FOX 4 reached out to the Planet Fitness in Cape Coral. An employee confirmed transgendered members are welcome to use whichever facility they identify with. The owner of the franchise declined to go on camera but promised to send a statement.

FOX 4 spoke to gym members to get their take on the policy.

"It doesn't bother me because I mind my own business along with everybody else,"Marlene Donahue said. "If I walk in to the bathroom, I don't know who's alongside me, behind me, or what, and I wouldn't know one from the other."

"I guess people have the right," James Edmund said."If they feel they want to be a man and want to be in the men's bathroom, then they could go ahead and be in the men's bathroom, but I'm not too sure it's something I'd vote for."

Amanda McDonough says she was a manager at Planet Fitness, she says giving clients the freedom to choose is what sets this gym apart.

"Coming from a manager's perspective with the whole judgment free zone, Planet Fitness, that's who we are that's what our label is.";

Below is the statement by Planet Fitness:

“Planet Fitness is committed to creating a non-intimidating, welcoming environment for all of our members. Our gender identity non-discrimination policy states that members and guests may use all gym facilities based on their sincere self-reported gender identity. Planet Fitness locations do have private changing areas within each locker room for any member who desires additional privacy.”

Illinois transgender student wins boys bathroom access

http://fox2now.com/2016/04/27/illinois-transgender-student-wins-boys-bathroom-access/
WILLIAMSVILLE, Ill. (AP) – A transgender student at Williamsville High School in central Illinois who was born female but identifies as male will be able to use the men’s bathroom.

Alex McCray recently resolved a complaint he filed in October with the Illinois Department of Human Rights. Under the agreement, he and other transgender students will have equal access to gender-appropriate restrooms and locker rooms at the school.

A press release from the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois says McCray previously was required to use a single-occupant restroom rather than the restrooms used by the other boys in his class.

School Superintendent David Root tells The Springfield State Journal-Register that the district thought that solution would make everyone feel safe and comfortable and it didn’t intend to make any student feel discriminated against.

I predicted sarcastically that we would eventually live in a more and more homogenous society where most all descriptors are protested against, and we will all be 'just human'

starting with eliminating the recognition of our anatomical designations as male and female,,,,

I was only joking,, but now I'm not so sure

Makes ya wonder where the end point is. We've went from male and female to human....Will it be human to mammal next? And so forth and so on?
I would say I'M joking....but, like you, I'm not so sure anymore either.

Shopper Upset Man Allowed To Use Women’s Dressing Room In Ross « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

May 17, 2016

MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM) –

A Forney woman says a Ross department store in Mesquite let a man into the women’s dressing room Monday.

“I was in the dressing room, when we heard a man’s voice,” said Lisa Stickles, who says she quickly told a manager.

“She went inside the dressing room, came right back out and called me to the side and told me… he was representing himself as a woman today,” Stickles said.

A customer service representative with Ross would not comment on the alleged incident but said they do not discriminate against the transgender community; adding, customers may use changing rooms that apply to their gender identity.

“What about me? Or my feelings?” said Sickles. “(The manager) told me that if I felt uncomfortable in the dressing room with him there… I’d have to wait until he’s finished.”

Sickles said she waited, and was shocked when she watched the man walk out.

“He was in no way dressed as a woman,” Sickles said. “He had on jeans, a t-shirt, 5 o’clock shadow, very deep voice. He was a man.”

Other large retailers across North Texas have varying policies on transgender customers who want to use the restrooms or changing rooms.

Target, TJ Maxx and Marshalls allow customers to decide based on gender identity, according to customer service.

Representatives from Kohl’s say their store require customers to use facilities aligned with their biological gender.

Walmart had no specific policy, according to customer service.

None of the companies would discuss how they train their employees to handle customers who claim to be transgender.

MINNESOTA PROTESTING
(74 Targets there)

Retail giant Target has been the subject of controversy over the past several weeks since the company opened their bathrooms to members of the opposite sex, sparking “buycotts” and boycotts across the nation in protest.

Now, a new campaign, orchestrated by Life Site News and the Child Protection League, has taken to the streets of Minnesota seeking to #FlushTarget because they believe the company is endangering women and girls by exposing them to sexual predators.

“They are opening bathrooms to all men, whether transgender or non-transgender,” said Julie Quist of the Child Protection League.

The campaign will be using a truck that features the image of a young girl being confronted by a man in the restroom, captioned, “What about her rights to privacy and protection?” The truck will stop at every Target store in the state over the next few weeks.

“Everyone has the right to use the bathroom safely and in privacy without fear of being raped or assaulted,” said Claire Chretien, national spokeswoman for Life Site News. “Unfortunately, Target, one of America’s largest retail chains, has decided to let any man access women’s bathrooms in their stores.”

Organizers of the movement have further stressed that the purpose of their campaign is not to move against transgender individuals but strictly to protect the rights and privacy of women and children.

“I want to be clear, we are not boycotting Target out of fear of [the] LGBT community,” said Chretien. “The are other ways to accommodate men dressed as women that don’t put us and our young children at risk.”

Minnesota state Rep. Glenn Gruenhagen has introduced a constitutional right to privacy and public safety bill in the legislature, which would require all public schools, universities and businesses to limit access to bathrooms and other similar facilities solely on the basis of biological sex.

I still don't quite understand what the big deal is.

what, none of you have ever been accosted in your own gender's bathroom? I was once in my high school. It ended pretty bad for me, and I felt horrible for months afterwards.

You're not safe anywhere unless you take proper precautions. If you don't want someone taking a leak where you personally don't think he/she should, the easiest option would be to wait until they have left.

But you can't possibly sit here and tell me that these people, sexual confusion not withstanding, don't deserve the same rights as other American citizens.

That is beyond sickening to me. You may as well say "no blacks allowed".

Oh, sorry, do you folks prefer "no coloreds"? Let's go with that then.

Charlotte Observer: Girls must overcome ‘discomfort’ of seeing ‘male genitalia’ in locker rooms

By Bradford Richardson - The Washington Times - Wednesday, May 18, 2016

A leading North Carolina newspaper issued an editorial last week telling girls to attempt “overcoming discomfort” at the sight of “male genitalia,” should transgender bathroom laws be enacted.

In a defense of President Obama’s order compelling schools to allow access to restrooms on the basis of gender identity, the Charlotte Observer editorial board compared the discomfort of school-aged girls seeing male genitalia in locker rooms to the discomfort of white people being around black people in post-segregation America.

“This is what the Obama administration nudged the rest of the country toward Friday,” the editorial said. “Yes, the thought of male genitalia in girls’ locker rooms — and vice versa — might be distressing to some. But the battle for equality has always been in part about overcoming discomfort — with blacks sharing facilities, with gays sharing marriage — then realizing it was not nearly so awful as some people imagined.”

While admitting that exposure to male genitalia is a possible outcome of transgender bathroom laws, the editorial said the notion that such laws constitute a threat to the privacy and safety of women and children is a “political fiction” pushed by Republicans.

“Those safety issues are political fiction — non-transgender men wouldn’t have been allowed in women’s bathrooms under the Charlotte ordinance that HB 2 killed, and the 200 or so cities with similar ordinances have had no incidents involving bathroom predators,” the editorial said.

President Obama issued a legally nonbinding order on Friday compelling schools to allow bathroom access on the basis of gender identity, or risk losing federal education funding. Several states have promised to oppose the decree.

The U.S. Department of Justice has sued the state of North Carolina over a law regulating public restroom access on the basis of biological sex.

So what are they? " People sexually confused " or a a certain race?
Quit comparing the lgbt agenda...which, BTW, has been shoved down our throats (no pun intended) to an ACTUAL race of people who ACTUALLY faced real discrimination.
Nobody gave two $hits about what these confused people did or didn't do until they threw their perceived plight in our face CONSTANTLY. Their bs has gotten old...Frick their whiny azzes (again, no pun intended)
