IMO Nobody cares for you until you learn to care for them.

Care, much like love, is reciprocal.

Why should anyone care about you at all?
Simply because you exist?
Along with 7 billion other people with whom they are competing for jobs, food, water, mates, land?

No one cares about you unless they can exploit you.
For feel good emotions, money, security, power, fame, love, babies, jobs, self image, sex, stability, whatever.

That's the entire foundation of civilization.
"If you offer value to me/my group, I/my group will protect you so you can continue to add value, the more value you are perceived to add, the more I/my group will care about you."

Reciprocity is part of the same social contract.
You ever have a job where someone brings you a coffee everyday?
Most people feel guilty when someone seems to do something for them for nothing, and look for ways to return the favor, to even things out. They say "thanks," or they do favors, or they bring in donuts, or offer to pay for the next round.
Most people focus on the feel good emotions of reciprocating more than the negative motivations that pushed them to do so.

You ever read the forums or profiles and read something about "bringing something to the table?"

Mutually beneficial exploitation is built into human social interaction.

So, yeah, the more someone is perceived to have something valuable, the more people are going to respond in ways to exploit it, they will treat those with perceived higher value "better" because of the perceived reciprocal cost.
